Well, you are really close! I live in Barnardsville. I love going over to Prices Creek, and Smileys feed store too. The craft fair in Burnsville is one that I never miss.

I'll check in the Iwanna - I did a search on-line at their site, but didn't find anything. I had someone tell me it was the first Sat. of the month but they weren't sure. I don't want to drive all that way if there isn't one this weekend. Gas is getting so high! Also someone said there was one down in Marshall too, but again, didn't know when. If I find anything out I'll post it.

Do you know anyone who has guineas locally?

Thanks,
Elizabeth

you'll have to start a thread on BYc for the Swedish Flower, if there isn't one, I know alot of BYCers would love to see pictures of them and learn about them. All the best in your endevor.

I'm in garner too. The chicks are cute. I can't wait to see them when they grow up... I gonna have to figure out where I can put up new pens. I keep seeing chickens I want.

Elizabeth, I think the name of the one out in Haywood co. is Cagle, and again don't know of anyone around here that has Guineas, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. I'll ask at Fox Bros. next time I go to buy feed. and please do post if you find any info about swaps, I am just leary of them because of people on here going to them and talking about sick animals fo sale, I couldn't stand to see something like that.

I've never been to one before. I never thought about sick animals. I guess that is something to watch out for. I just thought it would be fun to go see what there was.

Elizabeth, just like going to a poultry show, make sure to change your clothes before tending to you anumals and disinfecting your shoes also. just percautions to keep anything out of your flock. We did the same when I use to go to Dog obedience trials and matches hand washing, etc. let me know what you think if you go to one.

Reading the "bio" on a Rhodebar chicken.... it kinda sounds like my chicks... Rooster chicks are yellow... chicks with chipmunk strips on their backs are female... Sounds like mine.... I was told a cross breed bird.... hhmm..

I use Twin Oaks Feed Supply in Willow Spring off of Kennebec Rd. I don't know Agri-supply's prices as I haven't even looked there.

I live in Bryson City and have been to the Cagle's Livestock Auction in Waynesville several times. What you will see is a mix of sick and well animals. It is always interesting to see what people have in my area though. I have seen turkeys, guineas, rabbits, goats, sheep and chickens. It's just a very old long barn that they use, but it's fun to see what all is for sale. I have bought a few chickens and rabbits from Cagle's, but made darn sure to give them a very long quarantine before I let them roam with the rest of my flock. One of the most interesting breeds that I saw at Cagle's once was some Buttercups -- their combs were awesome. I will say that for the most part, the animals are healthy - the ones that I have seen the most sick are the poultry though - sad, breaks my heart to see them sick. At Cagle's they will also sell gardening tools, power tools, cages, fencing, wire, feed, etc. I always have a good time each time I've been there.
