My neighbor has chicks that are a few weeks old, already feathered out. He started with 4 and has lost two in the last two days. These were hatched by a hen. I didn't see body #1 but did see body #2. The back feathers were gone and a bruze (spelling) was on one thigh. No other marks on the bird. The body was packed with drit, but from what I could see the eyes looked good and there might have been a little blood in it's mouth, not sure because of dirt. Any ideas on what is going on with his chicks? 3 chicken people can't come up with anything, so anything would be helpful. Thanks alot.

Are these in a coop with other birds with mama? I've seen chicks be sent into bad tumbles when mama and other chickens are out in the run scratching the ground for bugs. They get under the claws and get clobbered!

They are in a pen with a bantom roo and two bantom hens (one being mama) but these are Lf ee's. Right now the chicks are the same size as all the others. There was no sings of anything getting in or out and the owner has a top on the pen and rabbit wire about two foot up from the ground all the way around.

Getting ready to go get all the lumber for our new coop. Also trying to come up with Wizard of Oz themed coop names, as our first coop didn't survive the tornado a few weeks ago (luckily there were no chickens harmed as they weren't quite ready to go outside) and I seem to have picked several Wizard of Oz names for my chicks. Dorothy is a Buff Orpington. Glenda "the Good Chick" is a Cornish Cross. Ruby Slippers is a NHR. and I have a Silver Laced Wyandotte names Auntie Em.
