for Blind Bob. He's such a trooper (it IS a he, right??). Hope he continues to fight and thrives (especially for your DD)!! I'd take him, but I have NO (safe) place for a duck.

Coop Update & Misc:

Thank you all SO much for your sweet comments about the cake. I am not happy with it, because I know I can do better - with more time

!! I am just happy the client liked it and was happy. Placing those pearls on were a PAIN!! Fortunately my next cake isn't due until June, so I can really think about what to do and how to decorate it. It's a graduation cake and she wants electric blue and lime green colors. I'm thinking of doing a Dr. Seuss style cake!! We'll see. It's all about what they want!!
I'm rather disappointed. My DH has been swamped at work and has been working 16 hour days AND has to work tomorrow, so nothing has really been done on our coop. I am happy the run is at least finished, as the gang LOVES running outside and they actually wait at the door for me to open it. If I am late...

I get LOOKS from several of them. Have any of you ever experienced a weird flock dynamic? My two BO are the biggest 2 and they keep to themselves - almost like a husband/wife team while the other 5 are grouped together. Didn't know if that was "typical" or not.

I am excited, I have some sugar peas or snap peas (can't remember which and silly me only wrote "peas" on my chart) really growing. I picked a few yesterday and they were HUGE!! I've never grown anything, but my carrots & potatoes are growing. Corn, beans, squash are a close second. My tomatoes and watermelon are eh same with my peppers.

My onions and strawberries are NOT showing any signs of life, but perhaps that's because it's still early in the year. My biggest disappointment...my lettuce, spinach, and cauliflower didn't fully blossom. I will try again towards fall.

This gardening thing is harder than I had expected.

Had a wonderful visit with my Mother!! We were all set to go pick strawberries, but a DD who is cutting all 6-8 front teeth decided to fall asleep JUST as we turned down the drive, so we purchased some already picked strawberries. My freezer is filled with strawberries...now I just need to figure out what to do with them - aside from strawberry smoothies!! haha. Well...things have settled down for a bit here, so I shouldn't be a stranger again for a while!!

Have a great afternoon everyone. I'm going to try and get some work done before our thunderstorms come!!

Ruthann, your flock has been trained in the school of Spoiled Rotten Allison World - LOL .... My BO are darlings , they love to be held and will truly close their eyes and sleep while you are holding them..

Ruthann... missed you!

Some of my birds stick together by breed when they are out freeranging .....we just call them snobs

But they all go back to the coop at night and snuggle together.

Hey....... has anyone heard from Em ?? Hope all is ok.

So on this rainy afternoon here in the Sandhills while the baby is sleeping and the chicks are content I am going to fire up the stove and make some cookies and brownies for my girlfriends baby shower.. What is everyone else doing to enjoy this quiet indoor day in NC?

I'm getting my crowd ready to go Camping! Of course, my 5 year old was asking if the chicks could go camping with us on our way home from school!

lol Thats to cute, sounds like my bunch! But right now they are mad that they can't play with daddy's new babies. Who haven't even been here a day and took my new brooder, that I didn't even get a chick in yet!
rant.gif
But I guess I can't say much, he did make it for me
love.gif
, so I guess some odd colored chicks can live with my babies. DH puts up with the birds, but he has a few of his own ( he just won't amitt to it often)

Anyone know how to sex baby bronze turkeys?

I am so ready to go camping but it has still been a little cold in my neck of the woods. I can't go too far because of all the animals so we will probably end up camping in the back yard next to the pond! lol. That's ok we will be close to restrooms.

Also if you guys didn't know we setup a email yahoo group for poultry owners in NC if any of yall want to sign up. Just putting the word out! It's drama free and family oriented and friendly people! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NCpoultry/

Hope
you have fun camping! I can't wait to go.

Well it looked like it was going to rain of an on all day, cool and cloudy and sunny, hows that for a forecast

all we've had so far is some sprinkles. which i am so glad since mama's are outside with their chicks today. michaelinnc, I think the girls squat and the boys hike their legs.

We use to go camping just about every weekend till we moved here in 95. now we just stay at home, we're in the woods what more could we want. Plus I would miss my babies too much to go away..
hmm.png

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend,

and Ruthann, my 2 LO stick to each other, my dh says they are stuck up but I think they are afraid of my other chickens although I haven't seen anyone be out and out mean to them.. Now I am wondering what roo will end up with them, my mostly bantam roo has 5 Brahmas and you know how big they are. Have a good'un
