It has been amazing to watch Bob grow. We had a problem when I first put him outside. He was in a "playpen" 10x10 with his siblings. One of the roosters hoped in and pecked Bob on the back of the neck when he was eating. Put a nice size hole on his neck. So Bob was separated from his flock and in ICU ( my laundry room) . 2 weeks later a repeat ! That rooster went to auction and Bob recovered without losing a feather. He know freeranges with the other ducks & chickens and just does great. He knows where the food & water is. Takes a bath. And follows us around when we are out there. He stays close to the duck pen but does not seem to mind. He really does not know he is blind.

Hey everyone,
I am still catching up on reading the last couple pages of posts. We got our little angora buck today, we spent most of the day getting all the mats off of him. We got him from a friend who had already gotten alot of mats off but he had plenty more

We are trying to figure out if he is a German of English Angora, any ideas?

And to answer your question about why not process, CoopScoop - the answer is because I am a big sissy!!! I'm not a meat-eater and could only do the deed if pain and suffering was involved. I'm having a hard time just getting ok with knowing whomever takes them will most definitely be doing it.

And my husband is even worse. He thinks we should forget the neighbors and keep them - he doesn't want anyone eating our pets!

So again, anyone need two Welsummer boys!!??!!

I will post them for free on here and yes, I have put an ad on craigslist and just reposted. Mixed feelings about all of this!

On a good note, all of the babies have figured out to go in the coop on their own!

They are so cute. Previously, either the big guys or the little guys would be in and the other group piled up together outside. So I'm glad maybe it means they're starting to integrate a bit. The little ones still stick very close together.

One more problem, the mosquitos are driving me INSANE!!!!! They are so bad this year!!! Does DE help mosquitos? Or has anyone done a mosquito treatment and know if it's safe to do with chickens? I have no idea if they use a bunch of chemicals or not. We're only spending time with the chickens wearing long sleeves and long pants, which you know is bad with this heat!! Ugh.

As for mosquito control.....try planting lots of marigolds, lemon geraniumns and zinnias........doesn't stop all but every little bit helps.

Good Morning

My kids are out of school, they sleep in and I'm STILL up at the crack of dawn.

ramirezframing I sat outside yesterday, staring at chickens trying to figure out hens from roosters.

They all look like roosters to me....it can't be....it can't be !!

I will let you know as soon as I do. They are only 9 weeks old, too young to tell.

AllAbout... cute. I had an English Angora, she passed away this winter, she was 7 years old.

The only way I got the mats out was to cut them out. She wasn't pretty for a week or two, but their fur grows back so fast. I do not know how to tell the difference between English and German. I didn't even know there was a German Angora

We have our 1st fertile/developing Peafowl egg

I have put at least 30 in the incubator already....nothing developed. I put 1 under a Silkie broody and it's developing. She now has 3.

coincidence????? I am not sure. I will have to wait and see if the other 2 eggs I give her start to develop. Well then I will need more broodies
