Thanks everyone, I am able to feed the rooster and one hen out of my hand but this other girl still hides in the corner of the cage. Tractor supply has those Happy Hen treats, maybe I could try those

I never have had to use any other treats besides cat food and bananas for my girls. Jane is back in the coop with everyone else

She has gotten a lot better in the last couple days, and can run again!

It was a real blow when we found Henry. We got the pair to breed and work towards the standard and now we don't have any

I just want to know what got him, he lasted thru everything else and protected his hens and after we just get the coop finished something gets him

Thankfully nothing has gotten into the coop. Any who, we had a bad storm pass thru plenty of rain and wind! We needed it tho so I guess I can't complain.

HT, love the fabric! How much did you pay for the machine? Our good will never ha anything good like that. What a find!

As far as I can remember, they should be very close now!! They were almost 9 weeks old when I got them in April, so they are quickly approaching the 20 week mark!! I will say one thing...man has their appetite increased!! I have gone through a 50# bag of feed in less than 3 weeks!! They are gluttons for sure!!

I am getting a little worried/sad about my new girls. They are all incorporated into the coop (no barriers) however, they will not go outside at all. They just stay in the coop and only went out when I had the divider. They still get chased by a roo and a low pecking order female. I sat and watched their feeding routine...they'd wait until all the rest were at one feeder, hop down and gobble what they could before they were spotted at the feeder and then get chased off by one of the roos or a hen. Is there anything I can do to help them? I really don't feel comfortable letting them loose to free range until we get a fence up. I'd just feel terrible if a fox or coyote or bobcat or anything else picked one (or more) off because we didn't have them properly protected. I was hoping one of the roos would take to them so that they'd have a protector, but that hasn't happened either.

I can say for sure that they are getting to the ripe old age of maturity because they roos are fighting more and more over the bigger girls. Jeremy actually jumped up and kicked (spurred??) Cottontail a few times while I was out there. He's also taken to pecking at my sneaker when I go in there (although I'm not sure if he's pecking at it so much as trying for my laces...I don't want to jump to conclusion!!) so I will say hormones are raging.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable 4th of July!! We spent the day working around the house doing this and that. I have a new floor in my sewing room!!
ya.gif
we installed a new ceiling fan in our office (the old one was dead) but didn't realize that the light that went with it wasn't a standard light and the only bulb we had to fit it was a night light bulb.

I have my raspberry, blueberry & blackberry bushes slowly growing. We dug up the grass around them some more and laid down some fertilizer and mulch! Went to re-till the garden, but I broke the tiller!!

I ended up with 2 blisters and a half finished garden.

What can you do?

Have a great day everyone!!

Goodmorning all

Had a quiet 4th at home with family. The kids had sparklers & poppers. We saw 1 firework thing in the sky. I suppose the rain canceled most plans.

It was very hot & smokey so most of the afternoon was spent inside.

Ruthann.... Sounds like raging hormones to me. It has started here AGAIN with my "teenagers". I will be taking 20 or so to the sale this weekend. As far as the new girls, they should work it out. It may take some time. Sooner or later the other will just start ignoring them....except the roosters.

Maybe add a feeder.

Henthymes, that is a NICE machine! I couldn't even guess what you got it for, but it was probably well worth it & then some.

I gotta get pics of my antique singer sewing machine, you'd love it. Totally works, my husband's best friend's mom tried to give it to his wife and she didn't want it, so they gave it to me. She had just paid $200 to have the whole thing repaired and refinished. Its amazing!

O.k...... so I got the sewing machine for a whopping $8.70!!!!!

We almost hit the floor when they rang it up, everything in the store was 30% off for the holiday weekend.
