North Carolina

What kind ? Uh, um .... good question. I have 6 white (1 which is HUGE), a yellow w/brown & a Dark brown. All were part of a chicken rescue that weren't being properly cared for. Was told the white were leghorns from an April hatch. Farmers Feed & Seed are guessing the other 2 are game hens (they were just starting to get feathers when we took them up there). I will try to post pics on Monday.

My friends & family think I am crazy for getting chickens. I am hoping to find others in the area who share my commitment to critters : ) I also have 3 dogs, 1 cat, 1 bunny & a fishtank of various fish. All but the fish are rescue animals.

oh well I have 4 dogs 2 cats and stopped counting chickens at 100+. We are going to look at a cabinet incubator tonight and I just bought a dozen hatching eggs.

Trust me there are lots and lots of people in the area who share the same feelings..

I figure if I enjoy this hobby and I can get it to a point where it somehwhat pays for itself by selling hatching eggs, chicks, etc. I am only having a little mini vacation every evening when I get home to tend the chickens

It has its ups and downs like the extreme heat we have been having and the cold winters but to me it
all is worth the happiness it brings in my life

Congrats story,

Bhep, I put her in her own crate in the duck house last night and she freaked out so bad, I had to go in and get her, told my dh I have about 86 diapers left out of 90 so she'll be in for a while longer. What can he say she's my baby

Ruthann, My dh use to hunt so he was familar with skinning just had never done a chicken before, but we did watch a video on youtube, I'll find it and PM you. He did it all, I jusr went and got them as he finished one washed and packaged them. It was so much better than the hot water and plucking.

Trying to lay maybe? Seems like she is old enough. I would keep her in for now since it so hot and she is so big and might be harder for her to keep cool.

I've got 10 2 month olds for my Bcm coop. Should I place them in at night, or morning??? Or any other suggestion? I think I am running out of room... Conan and his 4 gals hopefully will accept their creations!

Do they free range? if so then you could do it then, no matter when you intergrate them theres going to be some picking because it has upset the order. Most say at night.
