I am so very sorry for your loss.

What county are you in? Wake has leash laws county wide-- http://www.wakegov.com/NR/rdonlyres...09B4A23/1430/AnimalControlOrdinance.pdf---and Harnett County will consider them a public nuisance if they commit 2 or more offenses against livestock--http://www.harnettanimalcontrol.com/pdf/acordinance.pdf-- Wish they had that in place 25 years ago when I boarded my horse a my friends place and were attached by a pack of dogs every time we rode. Both require that they be rabies vaccinated. If you can find where they are chained up and call either county to investigate. Most people who leave their dogs chained up don't vaccinate them and you can hit them in their pocketbooks. If you can fid the doags and anmial controp issues a citation or removes the dog you can ask for re-imbursement-- not that you can EVER replace our babies.
Pursue these irresponsible people fully.

Carolyn

Carolyn, we actually live in Harnett Co right over the line so we're stuck with the nusiance issue. I've been told they won't come get the dogs, next time I have to shoot them if its an issue. It's not their problem to control the animals, I need to find the owner and take things up legally. Animal control won't do a thing!

We are going to invest in a 22 I think. I'm really big on not having a gun in a house where we have a kid, but I have to protect her as well as our animals, and our property. I think this economy and this heat have gone too far. The number of people being killed has jumped terribly and the number of break-ins have jumped up a LOT too! It's a scary world where you have to extra careful and take it a few steps up to protect our rights. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually it gets to the point someone is stealing from our veggie gardens or our fruit trees... its going to be worse then when the birds & squirrels get into them!!!

Thanks Shannon, I am really proud of how it turned out. We are now putting the finishing touches "chair rail" up in the finally finished painted home office, then it's either onto a "vintage" style screen door for the front or starting the laundry room makeover???

These projects are long over due.

So I went out this afternoon to check on the chickens and found one of our hens is sick

She has the same thing going on, it started with a runny nose and a swollen face. This evening I went to check on her and she has watery, bubbly eyes.

Do you guys still think this is a resp infect??? Or is it something else? I forgot to add, she is also having trouble keeping her balance.

Yep, upper respiratory(sinus) infection. I would make sure the coop is clean with plenty of ventilation. The ammonia smell from poop can irritate it and make it worse.

We have 3 Rhode Island Reds (only one is laying right now)...One Millie Flurr...and one Polish Golden Lace...we lost a polish lastweek. Think it was a racoon or weasel...but we have tightened up the pen...NOTHING is getting in there now! We are looking for another polish around Wake Forest if anyone knows of someone who has them.
