Good Morning Everyone

Well there is good news and bad news. I guess start with the bad and end with the good?
I went out to check on everyone before bed and I see Charmin one of our Buff Orpington chicks running towards me. I pick her up and look around than here comes our other BO named Chantilly. So at this point I know somethings up, I get to the coop and two of our Hamburg chicks fly on me. So I go back to the house and I put them in the garage and grab a flash light. I go out and I can't find the rest of our chicks anywhere. Something dug under the wire and took our last guinea, 1 hamburg, 1 EE, and our mixed breed pullet
I am completely devastated. Anything and everything has come to pick apart our flock this year.
On to the good news. Our little Turkey is doing great!
There has been some major ups and downs but she is feeling 100% better. She is back to eating and drinking on her own again.

about the skunk, not really, he grabbed one one night, by the tail, luckily not having the tail up, and was extra cautious, but always as breed, locks eyes, and stares down other animals to show dominance. some call it "the eye", that collies, cattle dogs, and some just called herding dogs should naturally do if decent working bloodline (though mine was supposedly from show stock, which is undesirable for a working dog). the livestock and kid protective was encouraged, but he will herd them till they tire and bunch together and stop trying to go off doing own thing, or move at all. my border collie alot more neurotic, would pen and close it after, being showed some, were my rough collie will do sometimes, but more often will just guard the door and not let them out and wait for me to come, close, then reward with petting (i think they were training me more than the other way around, so i claim no glory.. lol). the chickens my rough collie doesnt seem to specifically concerned with, and loves to startle flush and actually chase as herd, but seeming to be to tire them so then can pen them all together later easier. the furred ones though, my roughh collie would stay out next to all the time if let him, and super vigilant of them. so oddly he has more protective instinct towards the indoor exotic birds, but not so special attachment to the pigeons, doves, and chickens etc, and seems to be more playfully predatory, but never harms them, even when left alone. the border collie however was hyper vigilant in general, and when the chickens moved to another foraging spot, she was right with them keeping them close to each other and her. though the differance in the two breeds probably determines the active level of herding and such, as rough collies are more laid back, and borders are like: "OMG, LETS GO, WE ARE GOING WE ARE GOING"? WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NOW, WHAT WILL WE BE DOING NEXT AND AFTER THAT AND AFTER THAT? WHAT, YOU WANT ME TO STOP TO EAT.. AND SLEEP!!! COME ON LAZY BONES, LET GET GOING AND GET TO WORK, PLEASE!!!!!
id have t crate the collie to settle her to sleep and eat, and even then she would need tough chew toys, and pace (the toys i had through years of large breeds such as pits, wolf hybrids, rotts, etc, were demolished in minutes to days, after border collie was through playing with them). that said if i had more rural place ever again to work and make my own, id get me another border collie maybe (though if not given something constantly to do, they will dig down to the roots of trees even and tear them apart, but never had any vermin make it two feet past fence!).

On another funny note: DH put the eggs in the fridge, but accidentally placed the egg carton in the back. For some reason anything on the second shelf in the back....you guessed it FROZE. We lost 2 eggs because they froze and split wide open...however a frozen yolk was pretty cool to see!! OOHH, probably the best news of all: with my DH's brother-in-law's help, DH was able to finally kill (we tried to save it and relocate it but it didn't work) the black widow!! Now I can rest easily. We never thought we had a HUGE piece of property, but the relatives were so amazed....there's not much land (or anything green) in London, so he actually ASKED if he could mow our lawn!!
Scary good news: saw a LARGE fox wandering/sneaking around the border to our property the other day. I never thought I would be THANKFUL for those annoying unleashed yappers that my neighbor has, but they took wind of that fox and chased it clear out of here. DH and I are investing in a few guns (more like a his - .22 and a her - something easy) to protect our livestock!! We have moved away from the idea of goats and now are back onto the idea of sheep

Greens - I am so thankful to hear that the coon didn't actually get anyone!! I agree, maybe we should follow the Chick-filet billboards and post some in the woods with Tyson farms' address and a detailed description of their stock to see if the coons/other wildlife would like to check them out!!
