strange that we didn't feel it but south of us in Sylva did but thats okay, just thankful everyone is okay.

I wonder if it was more pronounced in the low lands rather then the higher altitudes?

Strangely, my husband was outside doing landscaping work and he said he didn't feel it where he was in Cary? It was VERY pronounced here, so I couldn't imagine not feeling it.

Was felt here big time, we are in Mt Airy right at the VA border. I hat earthquakes and pray for no aftershocks.

First thing: do not run outside during an earthquake. Resist the urge to run.

More people were killed in the 1886 quake in Charleston, SC, when their house facades fell on them than in any other type of earthquake related accident. ** Brick facades can kill.

Pick a doorway. Stand there. Put hands on sides if it makes you feel better. After the quaking stops, then go outside and inspect your house from the ground. I have a couple of "settlement" cracks in my bathroom walls. I checked them and found no change.

**I grew up hearing all about the Great Quake of 1886. Maintain "hurricane" supplies at all times to be prepared for an earthquake.

The movement took five minutes to travel from Mineral to Suffolk, VA. I was on the phone and noticed a mirror wriggling. It got stronger and the shaking lasted for over a minute. Not bad for just a "ripple on the pond". Local news reports only slight damage to a school in Mineral and to the National Cathederal in DC. Glad to hear you all are fine.

Speaking of natural disasters... Those in the Easter part of the state need to start battening down the hatches, I saw on the news that Irene may hit us at a cat 3.

Sitting on the bed when I felt it. It was like the washing machine was unevenly loaded and was shaking the bed, but I wasn't washing clothes. Didn't think anything of it till I read about the earthquake here. I am getting ready for the storm, if I don't it'll hit at a cat 3 right up the capefear, but if I do we prob won't even get rain

Not Poultry related, but ...
a litte bragging...

The Drexel Fair was last week. Mom and I always enter quite a 'few' items. We compete with each other to see who can win the most money. This year was mostly flowers, but we both had some vegetables, a few canned items, and some photos. Mom also had baked goods(bread, rolls, cookies, and a cake). The baked goods pay out a much higher premium to the winners.

This year I walked away with $60. Mom beat me with $67.

That means she had to buy the burgers. Winner pays.

Not sure who's is who's, but we ended up with 29 Blue Ribbons, 30 Red, and 19 White. We took ALOT of flowers.

I think 30% of the flowers there were ours.

I am checking to see if I can donate the ribbons back to the fair along with the last 2 years worth. No point in them sitting around here gathering dust.

The Burke County Fair is in 7 weeks. I have to beat her this time.

And make sure your ice cream container is right side up. I still remember the lime sherbert oozing out the freezer and down the fridge door when I finally got back home after three days post Hugo.
