I need to cut back and I am thinking about selling a few of this year's birds. If i can find good homes I may sell a trio of Mille Fleur d'Uccles and a pair of my Calicos.
The Calicos are what I am calling my mixed bantams. These are very precious to me.
Dot was my very first bantam. He was killed last year at 6 years, 4 months, 3 weeks old. His son,
Andy, is the father of the pair I may sell. Andy is the son of
Caramel and Dot. Andy lost his comb while living with a friend that generously gave him to me when I lost Dot.
Nougat is Caramel's full sister.
Peanut is Caramel's Daughter by Dot.
The Calicos all started with Dot and Oreo, who was Black and White. From those I got 2 daughters. Little Oreo(B&W) and Snickers. Snicks was my first tri-colored female and a prefessional shoulder walker. When bred back to Dot I got Caramel and Nougat, both look like Snicks with varing degrees of white. These breed true, but the gene pool is limited. I do not know which of the ladies is the mother of this pair. The Cockerel has more white then Andy and is most likely Nougat's son. They will grow to be about 3 pounds. They can be very friendly, but I have not really messed with these. They do want to be friends. They both have jumped up on the bench I sit in to see if I had treats. They love to go cricket hunting. The person that got these would have to be very protective of them and take extremely good care of them for as long as they live. I will be very selective.
If I had a more diverse gene pool and the years/money I would start a new breed called Foothills Bantams(maybe Carolina Bantams) with the variety being Calicos. That is a dream that will never happen, but it is nice to dream.
The Mille Fleur d'Uccles were bought as eggs and are supposed to be from show stock out of Texas. I have a Cockerel and 2 Pullets. One of the ladies is smaller then the other. Squirt had worms really bad when about a month old. She almost died, but was strong-willed and managed to survive once I wormed her. She has been growing good since, but is just a little smaller then her sister. All these were hatched 5-31(15 weeks old) and raised together by Dumpling, mottled d'Uccle hen.
I can get new pics of everyone tomorrow(today actually). I am not yet sure of prices. I don't want to charge too much, but I want to make sure they go to an excellent home.
