I know this person does quail. She's in Pittsboro - not too far from Hillsbourough, right?? http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Harvest-to-Home-Locally-grown-foods/410447969256

Sorry for all the pet troubles everyone. I'm a bit worried about my cat, too! I had 2 stray rescues. I lost my sweet boy last year to a condition that it really common in strays and the vet warned me that my other cat might also have it. Now suddenly she's starting to lose weight so I'm getting worried. She said there is treatment but it involves weekly IVs and isn't usually effective and of course is very expensive.

Wild, my parents' golden sounds exactly like yours! Older than his years, lots of trouble getting up and down. Poor things! I swear every golden I've known has had medical issues.

They're in and out of nesting boxes, being nosey as can be while Esme is laying, grumbling around, but NO eggs!!! G&A - I think I'm going to try your red pepper trick. Red pepper, right? Or cayenne? Now what was it again????? Oh, and question - Esme pulls out some little feathers while laying - is that normal???

Hope you all have a great day!

She is making a comfy nest. Perfectly normal. May even be trying to decide to go broody or not.

Crushed red chilli peppers work supposedly, I have tried it and it seems to..... remember, the nights are getting longer so eggs production does go down.......

Just thought I would give you all a quick update on my kitty.

Sadly, there was nothing to be done for her and she was humanely euthanized... The vet said she had fluid in her lungs and her heart was enlarged which was restricting blood flow. We could have taken her home, but she would have suffocated from the build up on fluids so it was agreed that the best thing for her was for her to rest!! Thank you all for your thoughts!!! RIP Lizzie

My whining paid off! Look what I found! Any of you care to guess who my new layer is??? None of them hatched from any egg that looked like this! It's so hard to take a stinkin picture of an egg! It's almost pink in person!

And Bhep - bite your tongue! My 1 good egg layer better not go broody!!! I need at least some eggs out of these chickens!

Just in case any of you are interested I just saw this ad for lots of free chickens on craigslist - standard and bantams. I'm stalking looking for a bagger for my husband's riding lawn mower and of course look at every chicken related thing that pops up!

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/grd/2659622989.html

"Several bantam and standard sized chicks, free to good home. These are about 5-6 weeks and nicely feathered out. We are in the far-side of Apex, near Jordan Lake We have:

2 Bantam Dark Brahmas (look like pullets at this point)
2 Mille Fleur D'Uccle (Bantams) (look like pullets at this point)
1 Bantam Buff Cochin cockerel
3 Ameraucana pullets
1 Frizzle Cochin cockerel

I also have some Bantams that have just started laying:

1 Mottled Japanese Roo
2 White Japanese Hens
1 Gold Neck D'Uccle Hen

It would be great to have them all go at once this afternoon if someone is able. Please bring your own boxes- first to respond gets first response back. Thanks!"
