But she's an entertaining little goofball so that's ok. A friend now has her hatchmate and she is also not laying! I hope yours don't hold out on you that long!!! And good luck with your DH w/ the new additions!

oooh, that little brat to not start laying yet?!

If it makes you feel any better, I have japanese bantams and cochins about that old not laying yet either.

In fact, out of 12 hens... I haven't gotten 1 egg since the first week of September. (Ducks, yes... chickens, NO!)

I hate when that happens... My EE took her time. She only started laying at 32 weeks! And then, instead of the pretty green egg I was waiting for, she lays light brown eggs... But I love her anyway! ;-) but that's why I had to have Ameraucanas this time. I need some blue eggs! ( I'm practicing how to explain to my husband why did I get them! I haven't told him yet and they're supposed to be here tomorrow!!! I'm a coward!

Since the chicks hatched under her she may have already switched to mother mode. Once that happens she will not set anymore. Her hormones have changed and she is ready to take care of the babies.

On the other hand there are some hens that will set and set no matter what. You could try it, but I would bet she is now at the mother stage and no longer broody. She is probably in the nest just to keep the babies warm. If she had access to starter and water and could get out of the nest with the babies she would most likely take them to eat.
