I really need some help! I'm so scared. This morning I found my rooster laying the floor, he can barely lift his head or stand! It did get very cold here, but the coop is shut tight and there is a heat lamp! His stool is yellow/milky and runny! (sorry for vivid info) and his crop was empty. He did take some sugar water and eggs. And his eyes seem bright.
I ordered antibiotics(amoxi-drops) and wazine and DE, yesterday. But it won't be here till next week!
What is wrong with him, and what should I do!??!

Anyone want to buy a Rooster or 2 or 3. These are the 4 I have forsale. I have to set a final date for them to be gone. I have to figure that out soon and I know it won't be long off. I hate to eat these boys, especially the bantam.

I have 2 Black standard Cochins that are 6 months old. Starting Price is $20 each, but will take what I can get for feed.

1 Blue Standard Cochin that is 6 months old. He 1/4 hatchery bird, which is where those blasted long tail feathers came from. Starting Price is $15, but will take what I can get to buy feed.

1 Calico Bantam Cockerel from my pets. Amos is Andy's Son and the Grandson of my beloved Dot(RIP). He is a large size bantam at 2.5 pounds, should max out at 3. He is solid and tight feathered. I have too many boys around and he is going for the big cochin hens. He is a good boy, just in that teenage phase with the hormones raging and he has taken a shine to the big black girls. The calico girls in the pictures are NOT forsale. Starting Price is $5, but will take what I can get.

Signs
A decrease in feed consumption and loss of weight may be the first signs observed. Sick birds appear dull and depressed, and often stand by themselves with dropping trails, ruffled feathers, and a sleepy appearance. Sulphur colored yellow droppings may be observed. If birds are not treated, or if treatment is delayed, mortality may be very high. Birds dying of histomoniasis have characteristic enlarged livers with circular depressed areas and enlarged ceca containing a rather dry cheesy material (Figures 1 and 2). Recovered birds may show swollen hard and scarred livers at the time of slaughter.

Treatment
The drug Dimetridazole can be used in the drinking water or feed to control outbreaks oh histomoniasis. Other drugs occasionally are used for treatment but are better used as preventatives. Sick birds should be isolated from the main flock and treated separately. Dead birds should be burned or buried deeply. All equipment used by an infected flock should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Prevention and Control
The protozoa-causing blackhead may remain infective within the eggs of the cecal worms in the soil for nearly three years; therefore each flock of new turkeys should be raised on new uncontaminated ground. Young turkeys should never be reared near older turkeys or with chickens that may carry the infection. In addition to domestic chickens, various wild birds such as pheasant and grouse may serve as reservoirs of infection for domestic turkeys.

The periodic moving of feeders, waterers, and roosts will help prevent the local buildup of infective organisms. Good sanitation and litter management will help prevent transmission of the cecal worm as well as the blackhead organism. Many histiostats or preventative drugs are available and they are commonly included in commercial turkey rations. Because of the very serious nature of blackhead in turkeys, it is advisable to develop a regular program of preventative drug treatment.

BHep - Hey, those birds still look white to me...so I think they need another turn in the mud!!

Yay for a good memory!! I am envious of the ability to remember...well anything anymore!!

RF - Thank you for that description! As usual, I was self-diagnosing my birds with parts of it....

Seems like if you look at just the right angle or at just the right time, I suppose my over active worried imagination would find a dozen things possibly wrong with mine!!

Susan update: Susan remains alert & active - she was a little slower than normal yesterday, but her appetite was not phased and she seemed to be doing okay. I did go out and buy some yogurt for them to eat once the deworming cycle is complete!! I may try to mix it up in some oatmeal or something for them...they sure LOVE oats!! (Can I just say no matter how I dress it up...I still hate oatmeal??

I'd gladly give it all - ALL to the chickens) No one else has their tails down and seems to be affected as badly as she is, so we will see. I did not get a chance to get her yesterday and give her the nutri-drench...I was afraid of either face planting in chicken poo or else stressing her out too much, so I opted to wait. I hope that is okay. Today will be day 2 of our worming cycle and I am trying to get up enough "umph" to go outside and do the treatment....especially since it's SO cold!!

Took me 20 minutes to fill up their waterer (only 1 gallon) and then I realized...the water in the hose was partially frozen!! I may wait a little longer this morning to see if it warms up just a tad more. So no opossums last night...they must have heard that DH and I were rifle shopping last night - found one that he likes for me, so we're going this weekend to check it out!!

I wonder if I can write it off on my taxes...as a farming expense?!?

Well, stupid state inspection on our other vehicle today, so I will be driving DH's car today (boooo...mine has heated seats!!), let's hope it passes inspection!! Then, I am spending the day, once home, sewing a few Christmas presents for the little one. Found an Owl pillow pattern that looks easy enough to make (she is obsessed with owls...I don't get it) and already cut out an owl jumper (this time I made it big enough for her to wear for at least a couple of months...maybe even a year) that needs to be completed. Then to work on sewing her Christmas dress and a matching one for her friend!! Should be a relatively nice day for sewing!! DH brought my machine down so I will be able to keep an eye on Susan and NOT have to carry DD up and down the stairs!!

Homesteader do ya'll lock up the chickens at night? If so, in the AM when you open their coop to let them out, that is the time to catch Susan and treat her.

No chasing, no stressing (on either of you). if hubby opens it up, get him to bring her inside for you, you can treat her indoors then take her out and drop her off. Won't have to fool around in the cold so much.

These hatched 9/10. They are sultan or polish Xs from ramirezframing. I have 1 more black & white speckled.
