well you guys I've now got one hell of a busy day all of a sudden. next 2 days I will be washing birds, cleaning pens, and sanitizing like hell. Went out and looked over everyone and this crazy dang weather has brought me my 2nd battle ever with a freaking mite infestation.

I've got to wash all my silkies, I know they are the most prone to being taken down by mites, and I have 2 girls who are really bad, in just a couple days since I looked everyone over really well!!! UGH I've already bathed those two solidly, got them wrapped up and under a low heat light in the house. Going to do one pen at a time, bring all the birds inside, wash them, and then go out and clean and sanitize their pens and coops really well while they dry through the day. Got me a bag of sevin dust, some ivormectin pour on, and adams flea shampoo to battle this. It will be quite interesting with the dogs and chickens in the house UGH thank god Shawna goes back to school tomorrow so I can really get the most of it done tomorrow while shes not here. How I wish I had a fellow chicken crazy who lived near me to help me bathe these guys. bah. Wish me luck you guys.

Good Luck

I used the ivormectin over the summer, killed the mites overnight BUT they came back a month or so later.

I have just been sticking to the poultry dust so I have no loss of eggs.

Anyway I got all but a few that need baths, the teenagers I didn't need to wash, just sprayed them with flea spray and dusted them. The few that had a noticeable infestation I brought them inside, washed them and they are still drying. figure they will stay in over night since it will be so cold tonight, and letting the main coop air out since I cleaned all the bedding out, sprayed down all the nooks and crannies of the wood, and dusted the shavings with some sevin dust. tomorrow I will check the large fowl layers before I let them out to range, and if need be I will dust all them or treat with the pour on. (I hate to use pour on on the layers because of the darn withdrawl - but I have a good bit of eggs thankfully)

NH, I'm sorry to hear about Susan. I'm off Tuesday/Thursday this week and Saturday. If you do decide you don't want her to suffer I'll be happy to help you out. It can be difficult to do it yourself with your own pet.

Bhep, ADORABLE chicks!!

Good news is that one of my Delaware gave me a nice light brown egg yesterday and one of my RIR pullets dropped a little pullet egg for me yesterday!! YAY. Now if I could just convince these rascals to lay IN the box.....ugh.
