I'm glad to see so many of you go to WCA. I was there last Sunday, got there early enough to score the big couch in front.

I have gotten all my chickens there. A year ago I was living in Atlanta and, after church, going to Starbucks on Sundays. Now I'm in a small town (Wendell) engaged to a man with 52 chickens, going to WCA and checking a hen house every day like a treasure hunt to see if there are eggs. I'm hoping for lavender babies this spring, if my rooster is doing his job. We haven't actually seen him, but I'm hoping.

:welcome

We all break and end up at the WCA one week or another! HAHAHAHA

So week after next I'll be there. LOTS of plans. :D hehehehe

OK, first of all, my cochins seem to be doing well. No eye/nose drainage, eating and drinking well, running around and begging for treats. Fingers crossed this is a virus that will run it's course and be gone soon.

Secondly, remember I booted my babies out of the house a few weeks back? Rocky and what was supposed to be 4 hens. Well, the 2 buffs appear to be roos, and have started to pick on Rocky.

So, I spent the afternoon making a temporary yard and coop for those bad boys!! It looks kinda primitive, but will suffice until DH gets home and can build them something else. I used two very large black plastic pots, one inside of the other and a opening cut out, for a coop!! Orange plastic fencing tied into neighboring coop yards just tops it all off!! LOL!! Guess now we will have to get some buff hens ! I am thinking it will soon be time for a WCA trip!! Oh man............twist MY arm!!

I feed my chickens 1lbs-2lbs in the morning, free range them for 4-5 hours, then give some scratch in the evenings! I have 13 chickens in the coop and it takes me about 2 weeks to go through 25lbs.
Today is day 9 for my girl Autumn who is faithfully sitting on 10 eggs, YAY. I'm gonna try candling tonight to see if any are devolping *fingerscrossed*
And tomorrow I'm getting 20 new chicks, can't wait!
Hope everybody has a blessed day!
ON the feed subject: I bought 4 50lb bags of assorted stuff and I've had it for almost 2 months...... the big hens free range all day and sleep in the backyard at night.
the babies get as much as they can eat and I still haven't gone thru the 200 lbs.?!?!?!

anywho
missed the auction last week so might make it this week but if I get this wild hair in my butt I may stay home and have a pig pick'n
pictures of everyones progress soon to come as soon as I get time to!

I go thru probably 200# +/- a week in feed!!

We get through approx 100 lbs per month. I gave up on Purina at almost $16 a sack, now use either Bartletts or Winners pellets (20% protein) at $13 a sack.......

Tricia, is your feed guy friend going to be there in April? If so, maybe get him to bring some feed to sell. I will buy 2 or 3 sacks and bring it home with me if he is priced around the same as I am paying now....

I keep my feed in a steel bin, tight lid so no mice etc can free feed...... and it keeps it fresh, add in the Calf Manna (love the smell) and away we go!

Luke I never buy more than 2-4 weeks worth of food at a time, because I always worry about the food going stale and losing all the nutrients out of it.
These darn chickens are spoiled! I started back work part time at the produce shop so all they get is treats =( I feel like I'm not getting as many eggs but the quality and size and attitude of the chickens is way up?!?!?!? oh well NO more buying or selling for me

I found extra work so I'm happy with what I have now and am excited to start paying off the property in Tennessee
