I need help with genetics- I have some NNxEE eggs in the bator (the roo is the EE and my NN have bow ties, one NN lays pink tinted eggs and the other lays brown). What genes are dominant and how do I figure out what my chances of what chicks will have what traits.

I am not good with the genetics but I have found that my EE/NN rooster does pass on the blue egg gene.

So the last couple days have been busy. We went to TSC Monday to get chicken feed and goat feed. I had told DH it was chick days there and we were even considering getting some chicks. Got there and there was only one batch of chicks there. They were EEs, which I don't mind having more of but they were all chipmunk colors so I passed on them. So we went to our local feed store to check out their chick selection. They were out of chicks and won't be getting more till Thursday.

We saw bunnies there and my ODS kept asking for one. DH was looking at fencing supplies and comparing prices for when we expand our fencing. Well he picked up a cattle prod and was messing with it. He decided to touch the back of my leg with it and I got shocked!

I yelled at him and he said that he didn't think it would work because there was a sign on it that said it was just a display and wouldn't work.

He had also touched one of the prongs and it hadn't done anything to him.
So since the kids wanted something furry we decided to go back home and do some research on what things would cost. We decided to go to Petsmart and were planning to get a rat since I had heard they were a good choice for kids and though I am not a rodent fan I figured I could get used to them if they were friendly. There were no rats available but we did find something else.

They are Russian Dwarf Hamsters. The kids love to watch them. Snowball loves the wheel on the cage and is constantly in it. Cloudy is a bit nippy. We will be working on getting them to enjoy being picked up and held. Now we just have to figure out all the care guides for hamsters!

From my experience, if it comes out with a pea comb, there's a chance for it to lay colored eggs. Straight comb don't lay colored eggs. Seen this in my projects, some of the pea combs didn't lay a colored eggs. But my white egg to a colored egg cross have all laid a colored egg. Some of these have a straight comb that splits in the back. I have read that some straight combed ee's do lay colored eggs, just doesn't happen often. Also read that some pea comb ee's don't lay colored eggs. Good luck

We just weaned our boys yesterday, they seem to be doing great could care less that moms gone, just give them food.

Coop construction began yesterday. We're doing an 8 X 8 with an enclosed run...not sure how big the run will be at this point. Hoping to start with 6 layers...I'd like Speckled Sussex and Americaunas to start. We're excited!

What chickens do you have? or if you don't have any yet what are you thinking about getting?

None yet...but I think we're starting with 5-6 layers. I'd like to get Speckled Sussex and Americaunas.
