Hi North Carolineans...

I have a rooster problem.
I have 18 hens and two rooster, a Delaware and a Dark Brahma. They are the same age, 11 months old, but The Delaware matured a lost faster. Until now, they both got along OK, but now the Brahma has matured and started to mate and crow, and the Delaware is being very aggressive towards him. Most days Big Foot, the poor Brahma, doesn't even come out of the coop. I feel very sorry for him, he is very sweet and good with the girls, a perfect rooster, never aggressive.

So... I'm trying to find a home for him. Anybody who has a flock that needs a nice rooster? I really would rather find him a home than eat him...

I live in Chatham but am willing to drive to give him a nice home.

Thanks!

I was able to visit the flock swap in Fayeteville today. We could not buy anything because we are going to the circus tonight and live an 1 1/2 away. We saw two wonderful buttercups, a top hat, and some guineas my DH would like to have. We talked a little to a few folks. Went to the feed store and my DH bought a bull gate. Off to another feed store.

Hey everybody! Hello to any who made it to the flock swap in Mebane this morning! I didn't see anyone I recognized as from BYC, but I likely wouldn't have known if I had! I think we had a pretty good turnout, and the place was hoping the whole time. We sold a lot of chicks and enjoyed talking silkies, so I was pleased.

I was down on the end with the kids selling baked goods!

Spent the day outside working. DH gave me the option to either mow or weed....really??

So needless to say, our garden is weeded and our lawn is mowed!! We also have 2 "new" doors on the coop to fix the ones that blew off!! We had a nice little surprise...found a slide on our property that was left by the previous owner!! DD woke up from her nap to find a slide attached to her sandbox and was SO excited. All she wanted to do is slide down it with daddy!! Best moment ever!! Okay, that is second only to the moment she wanted to do it by herself and landed face down in the sandbox with a wide open mouth...then got up with this horrified look on her face...tongue hanging out because it was filled with sand. HAHA!!

Chicken house got cleaned out a couple days ago, pens and lean-to at the barn are now cleaned out, barnyard is raked, chicken "moat" is raked. Hubby has built and installed a new gate between moat and pasture. And he emptied all the tubs and wheelbarrows I filled. (We are such a good team.

I think today was the first time hubby has really looked at the chickens, aside from the pet birds. The rest just seem to blur into poultry for him, and he can never see individuals. But today he pointed to my prettiest Splash hen, and asked what color she was. When I told him, he said he wouldn't mind more of those around. (Glad to hear it, since the incubator is one week in to 40 eggs cooking!)

I am one very tired chicken lady. I was embarrassed when someone came over and my livestock area was far messier than it should have been. But it's back to where it should be now.

So, after all that...I think I'm cooking chicken for supper! But first...I think I'm going to go photograph a hen or two....
