Did anyone at WCA see a blonde woman with a tyed die t shirt on with blonde hair. That was me. I am pretty sure I was sitting pretty close to MaryRuth because I recognise her pic from her avatar. I should have said "hi" but I am shy.
We probably saw you... but had no idea who we were looking at... next time just pop over and say "Hello".

Me thinks you have just a tad of a reputation around here......

Sooo... this is Peepers? He doesn't look that messed up.

I tried to fix the splayed leg with the bandaid methond. Poor thing kept falling over and could not get back up. So DH helped take the band aid off. So what did I do wrong when I tried putting the band aid on. It look like the easiest method to try plus I had band aids. I want to try again tomorrow. How do I position her legs together so she wont fall over and can hopefully correct this. It is not terriabley bad. She does leave it straight out to the side when standing but walks okay. Still working on the blood or whatever it is on the other chicks head. The soapy water did not really work, so I dont even know if it is dried blood. No one is picking on this check and he/she is very active.

separate the chick, apply the bandaid (don't sure a whole bandaid, cut in half long wise so its thin) (if you want to remove early use olive oil to help break up the glue) you want the bandaid to be the correct width apart, look at your other chicks and see how far apart the legs normally are) for a standard sized chick (Leghorn, barred rock, orp) the width of the white part of the bandaid is usually perfect. bantams may need to be slightly shorter apart.

put the chick in a coffee cup with some shavings or paper towel in the bottom of the cup. this lets the chick have the bandaid on to help hold the leg in place, and doesn't let it fall and thrash around, also keeps the other chicks from pecking at it and attacking it (which will happen when any chick start thrashing around or acting weird) you can put the cup in the brooder with the others but preferably you should put it away from the others for 12-24 hours. in 12-24 hours severe splay leg should have corrected enough to allow a chick to have figured out how to stand up and hold itself proper. keep the hobbles on ATLEAST 3 days. I prefer using rubber bands because it allows more strengthening and movement.

the red chick - i'm wondering if its permanent marker from hatchery?

Ok....I'll ask.......is that a snake in the bottom right-hand box????

Nope.

It's TWO snakes. A mating pair of black rat snakes. We moved them to behind the barn. (I know; not that far away.) The male never returned. The female moved back into the henhouse, under the hinged lid. She ate an occasional egg while keeping the mice down. I put a water bowl up there for her, and she stayed all summer to keep the mice away. Almost lost her when she ate a wooden dummy egg, but she survived it. We named her Egglentine. She moved out on Labor Day. Wish I could get a resident snake every summer!

If you look closely, his bottom beak sticks out to the side. The pic doesn't show the other see-able issues he has. Than there's the non-see able issues. But I love him and he's pretty smart.
