I have found no matter what the type of animal every once in a while you find on that is extra special!
Edit: btw hope you are feeling better.. My DS is still down for the count poor guy!
I don't have any of my chickens named. All the current adult hens look a lot alike so I wouldn't be able to keep up with who was whom. There are a couple of our chicks that have names but it's because my kids have named them. There is Captain chick, the polish (b/c of my avatar pic), Shaved Neck, the turken, and Mohawk, the EE/polish cross.I 100% agree. I feel like my emotions are very situational. I've worked at a couple zoos, so animals come and go for various reasons. I love them all, but it never upsets me like my own pets. I take it as part of the job. Another part of my job is cutting up baby chicks and mice and skinning them...doesn't bother me too much. Then I see a dead field mouse that got traped in a pipe and it upsets me....go figure. I've discussed having to thin the chicken flock in the future with my boyfriend. Right now I only have 2 so it probably wouldn't be for another few years. But this "chicken math" is a reality and I feel we, as a couple, should be prepared to make the decision. I feel like I'd be okay with it*, just take it as part of the job. But if a racoon got in and killed them, or they got sick-I would probably be upset. So odd.
So the * is an exception for my first two chickens, who still don't have names, who I figure I would never be able to kill because they are my first two chickens ever. Right now they are big white chicken and little black chicken, but I guess if I plan on keeping them forever at least they should get names. Do you guys name your chickens?
Absolutely! Best one yet!hope you had fun at the show Hollow
Yep, I name everything I have. I had some Cornish hens that I didn't name on purpose because I was going to let DH put some in the freezer but the fox raid of last August at my farm took out all but 2 of them. They now have names and have been granted amnesty. One of them actually went broody and is sitting on a clutch that should hatch this Friday! It may take me a while to name though...I have to watch them and it just comes to me!I 100% agree. I feel like my emotions are very situational.
