North Carolina

Hopefully not, maybe they just needed more room, they don't do well when in close quaters. you may try putting some triple antibiotic ointment on it. Let us know how they are in a few days. But don't get scared an run out for antibiotics not a good thing to treat with unless you know what your treating. pics of injuries would be good too. Lots of very helpful folks here.

I put some of that Blu-Kote on it using my finger to dab it on. They look less swollen today and actually looks like the blisters have dried up. I really think that one chick pinched the others.

LoL... and I thought I was bad... I named my pot-belly pigs... Porkchop, Fatback & Tenderloin...

We name our chickens too... er.. umm... most of them anyways.
But speaking of my pot-bellies... Fatback had her "bacon bits" today....

She had 7 piglets, but 2 didn't make it... so we have 5 beautiful baby pot-belly pigs. (3 girls & 2 boys)

He is such a little showoff.

They are precious, you have beautiful animals. I especially like the lizzard who came to welcome the new borns.

Anyone have experience with determining gender on leghorns? My 2 leghorns are almost 7 weeks old now and I want to figure out genders if possible. I have no experience with single comb birds so I have no clue what I should be looking for. Anyone want to take a guess? I'll apoligize in advance for the quality of the pictures. I was doing it alone so I had to handle chicks that didn't want to be held with one hand and the camera with the other. If I need better pictures I can have DH help me this weekend.

Good to hear. I use blue kote too and usually have purple on me somewhere but you have to be very careful around the face so I don't usually tell people to use it when theres an injury there. But glad to hear they are looking better. Are they all the same breed. Do you have any idea why the one chick would do this?

I love all the pictures! So cute and sweet!

OK, I have a question and I am a first timer with hatching. I have a broody that is on 6 eggs and they should start hatching this Friday. I candled last night and everyone is looking good. One of the eggs though has the air cell to the side instead of at the big end of the egg. Will the hen handle it and turn it right? Can that air cell even move to the right place as it is? Can it still successfully hatch out with the air cell over on the side? I imagine it can but it's chances are significantly less but I don't know. Sorry for all the questions but ya'll are just too smart and readily available!!
