LONG 4 DAYS!!!!!! I'm exhausted! all moved in got the new chicken pen together and got them moved in. I left the gf in the house to get the unpacking "started" and I'm occupying myself with things outside.

JD: the EE you were gonna get from me is no longer alive =( before we moved I took down alot of the chicken wire thru the garden and I guess she got out and into the neighbors yard.....with the big angry dog.

MEG: I have a light brahma roo and he needs a home......I was thinking maybe you had a pen that was empty and I could get him maybe 2 hens and buy all the food and what not.....I hate to see him go because he was a B-day present. I dunno...blah.....my body and brain are worn out from moving

Good morning! We had a busy and fun weekend, didn't want Monday to roll around, but somehow it always does.

Our barred rocks are about 4 weeks now, and it looks like I have a few roosters that are ready to go to a new address! Anyone interested? Free roosters! Their daddy is about 20 lbs and a pure sweetheart. I'm in Liberty (near Burlington).

I'm also selling a 10 week old SFH roo who is just gorgeous. $15 for anyone on BYC. I just cant keep them all!

LukesCityHens, glad you got everything moved, particularly with that damaged wrist of yours. I'll bet that wasn't fun.

Right now since I just brought in a bunch of new birds every pen I have is occupied, at least until I get back from my trip and sort out all the cockerels that have to go, and the Buff Orps I have seperated out to go. But I won't get that done for a couple weeks. Sorry.

It's ok, I had to ask since the gf doesn't want to see him go.....he is currently on a leash tied to a tree with enough cord to pretty much be freeranging. It seems everyone is adjusting well to the new digs

Good beautiful day all! My 8 new babies are doing so good. One little guy I was worried about, the last one to hatch wasn't fluffing up, 24 hours latter still looked crusty, becoming more and more lethargic, I happened to think I wonder if we showed him the water? So I took him and dipped his nose in, well he drank and drank and drank, went and got a bite of food and drank and drank again! Started perking up/fluffing up and he is fine now! Poor little one was dying of thirst! Note to self: Don't forget to show them the water when you put them in the brooder! ...I knew that!!

So let me see if I understand this chicken math stuff:
Hubby did NOT want chickens, not one! Cohearsed, cajoled and cried until he built the most awesome chicken tractor. While searching for the perfect chicken...I decided that I wanted Buff Orpingtons and an EE or 2, no roos and max of 6 chicks in tractor, neighbor give me 5 baby mutt chicks, one of those dies and now I have 4 unsexed chicks. Turns out I have 2 hens, 2 roos, so tell hubby we are getting rid of roos and I am still looking for BO's. Friend gives me 10 very fertile BO eggs, of which 8 have hatched, they are so cute and sweet. Tell hubby these are the sweetest chicks, he grunts " they are baby chicks" they hear his voice and come running, I say see they know your voice! (He took care of the hatch while I was at work. So some possibly think he is their mommy

) He sticks his hand in the brooder and this tiny little yellow fluff ball climbs up in his big hand, nestles down and goes to sleep! So back to the math, hubby says how many of those chicks do you plan on keeping? I say well, gonna get rid of roosters in tractor, leaving 2 production reds (I guess), thought I would keep 3 of these babies (pullets of course) and neighbor has an Arucana that he says he will trade me for the tetra roo. Hubby says, that's 6, I was thinking that tractor would house 8 chickens so we could keep 2 more of the babies......they seem to be multiplying!!! Is this what chicken math is all about?

Glad to not read about any losses this morning!

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another duck missing right off her nest by my deck! I thought I could get her moved in the morning to a pen and didn't get her in time. So now I have 3 ducks who are presumed DOA.

Then to add to my frustration a neighbor just happens to mention seeing a coyote in broad day light at the pond between last week and yesterday. And she just doesn't HAPPEN to mention it to the lady who owns the ducks she likes to feed.

I'm really between tears and screaming!

I was going to rehome my muscovy but she's the ONLY duck I have left now out of 4. Luckily I saw her today and she's on top of the chicken coop perched and refusing to come down near the pond at all. I need to catch her today and move her into a pen and lock her DOWN!

Ok... off to sob... sad and duckless.... and gunless! Which I am thinking of changing that as of the end of the day today, I can tell you that!

Sorry about your ducks. And sorry about your thoughtless neighbor. People who don't have livestock just don't think about such things at all.

Smart muscovy, staying high. Good luck catching her up.
