Ok so I did as suggested and have taken the little aracuanas out of the modified brooder/pen in the big chicken's lot (they stayed in there 2 weeks), they have been in the pen with the bigger chicks for 2 days and they will NOT come out of the house! The roosters will amble up there and the little guys ignore them, but if one of the hens comes up they run and cower. They were huddling in a nesting box, but the hens really fussed at them, so they would jump up on the roost and huddle. Now every time a hen comes in, up on the roost in a huddle they go. They all seem to get along fine sleeping together at night. But they refuse to go down in the run! I is so hot that I am worried about them. Any suggestions? LOL

CJ Jenkins..... that is normal, the chicks are learning who is the boss. Give them time, ounce they get brave enough they will be all over the place.

Thanks Beth, I am not as nervous and worried about them hurting the little ones now, but poor little guys are burning up in there. The hen I call Rosie has always been timid and standoffish seems to be the 'queen' of the flock, she has been the most aggressive.

Those new chicks are so pretty, perhaps I want a Lavender chicken??? jk, DH would kill me!

It would be funnier if it was a rooster pointing his "weapon" at her instead....LOL...Then your birds could roost on it and SING to her!!

Well, today we are taking down the fence in our garden...nothing else is making it and so we've decided to dig up about 2 feet of soil/grass around the whole area, till from now until late fall and then bring in a few truck loads of top soil (which means DH actually has to go out and BUY a truck) and till some more. This spring we plan on borrowing our neighbor's BIG tractor to really till the ground up and finally add our chicken manure that is "fermenting" right now. So far the biggest load we're going to get (I am hoping) is our potatoes from our potato box. That thing is 4 feet high, full with soil and the thing is STILL growing and yet it has no where else to go. Fingers crossed for like 50lbs of potatoes!! LOL I have a few plants in containers on the porch that are doing VERY VERY well, not sure if they will "fruit" but they are definitely growing well. DH and I are happy with what we were able to get out of the garden, especially since neither of us has ever gardened before and we're learning. I just wish I knew when to harvest, when to thin, how to thin and all those simple details. Still last year we only had peas, this year we did get a LOT more, so it's progress!! Anyone want to come over next spring and give us lessons?!? LOL We're going to use the paper CSB gave us to line the pathways (under some mulch) to help prevent the spreading of grass should any grow!! Thanks again CSB!!
