alot of diseases can be passed through eggs and buying from an npip flock doesn't help to stop it since the npip doesn't test for them. But if you buy healthy birds and quarantine them for at least a month and stress them so that if the new birds have anything it hopefully shows up and doesn't get your old flock. But that's just my line of thinking. I love going to see whats there and talk with other chicken people

Me too ramirezframing...i am a HUGE believer in quarantining new flock members. absolutely no one meets until after at least a month. i realize you run a risk getting birds at a swap (actually you run a risk no matter where you get them from- even the cleanest place can have a sick one occasionally), not that i am looking for grown chickens/ducks as i want them newly hatched so i can get them used to me. but i enjoy meeting people and seeing different breeds/other animals. plus the one here is suppost to be not just a flock swap but more of a farmers market type of thing with people selling/trading crafts, animals and home made goods.

well DS and I got the silkie and sumatra pens dusted for hopefully the winter

Man, I think I need to cut back on the silkies feed. They are all fat, even the two roos! Now I just have the mutt and polish pens along with the turkeys and a few "odds and ends" pens to do

Ya'll have a good night and a great day tomorrow

Hello folks! My cup runneth over with cockerels! They aren't just any old cockerels though they are Bresse Noir cockerels. I was hoping to trade them for a couple or three Basque hens. I might be convinced to throw in a Bresse Noir hen all these birds are 17 weeks today. I can't afford to continue to feed 4 hungry cockerels, so folks should contact me if they are interested. I would entertain trades of other breeds but mostly interested in good layers! I'm in Durham so if your close pickup is an option!

PM me!

What have you dusted with? I have been reading about Sulfur being a good mite buster.

I use 7 10 % dust on them, fire ants, the dogs and cats, and even once on a horse, just about everything

because it doesnt hurt them and is safe around the kiddos (dont know what happens if they eat it, which thankfully none of mine have yet)

Thanks so much, I so appreciate the Welcome. I enjoy all the post.
When I went to open the Coup this morning this is what I found. Chicken in a Basket LOL the basket was just in there for decoration.
