He has been my best friend since I was 10. He is the best dog, he let hamsters, ferrets, lizards, cats and chicks play on him. He helped raise countless foster puppies and kittens. He was my therapy and seizure alert dog. He stood strong to help my mom up when she fell. He hualed firewood, and kept us warm on camping trips. He rescued us when we would “drown”(we called it swimming) in the lake. He protected us from everything. He loved to lay in the yard for hours with a stick. He'd swim in the lake for hours. He always has to be near one of us! He helped me raise my 1st group of chicks and is part of the flock. He'd leap into the baby pool, and play with the ducks, or well…he'd splash around and the ducks would use him as a log.
Its been a really hard decision, to let him go, and I'm having a very hard time imaging my life without him.

I feel for you, and completely understand what a dog yours means. I had a rott mix that we adopted from the pound, and hearing about your story brought tear to my eyes because of the similarities. Brindle was a great dog, who really looked after me, and I will always miss her, but I recall someone telling me back in April, that it would get better for me, and reminding me that in her age she had pain and that it would no longer be. I won't get into all of the details about my Brindle, but share with you that like your dog, she was extra special, and that you are doing what is right for her. You must allow yourself to grieve this wonderful companion and friend for your pain to decrease. It will not happen over night, but you will have less pain with time, and find that at times when you remember him you may cry or have a tear, but then there will be the smiles when you remember something great after a while. Bittersweet, yet much better memories. We are planting a garden in her honor so that the kids will always have a happy place to reflect. She was 15, and they had never known her to not be there. You may want to put something beautiful and full of life in his final resting spot.

Hey yall. just had to share this... last week the hubby and i made an additional run in the back yard for the flock. so we have the old smaller area for the bantams (40x30) and a new big area for the rest of them (40x60). We took some chairs to sit inside and were watching everyone happily dig around in the new grass and leaves. Actually everyone was so busy it was silent out there....scary. Anyways while we were sitting there discussing the garden for next year and new ducks and chicks we are going to order for next spring my hubby looks at me and says we should add a total of 10 new chicks next year. I just froze and then said don't toy with me.

Of course he is thinking about eggs, he loves the fresh eggs and now swears by them. All I was thinking was OH YEAH more chickens!!! Now I will get to order the breeds I really want and will get egg layer breeds from the feed store so we can vary the brooder times.
MORE CHICKENS!!! YIPPY!

Miss Lydia,

Do you have snow. Where are you located? We are fine here in Franklin now. Gloria Jean
Burnsville and yes we have a very pretty wet snow about 4" they were saying 8 but the other 4 probably got blown up into Virginia.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! I got to Cowee mtn on the way to Clyde for a Dr. appt. and I had to turn back. Heavy wet ,sticking snow. Not just a flurry. It was thick as far as the eye could see. I really wanted that appt. I normally like an occ. snow but not when it keeps me from an important Dr. appt. Oh well, you can not fight mother nature. Everyone stay safe out there. Gloria Jean

My son is at Boone, and said they've got about a foot of white stuff, classes are cancelled because the plows can't keep up, and he was heading out with his new birthday present snow board to have some fun!
