I moved birds around this weekend so I could out the grow-out Turkeys in a bigger pen and they would have a shelter and also be in a safer pen so they don't become raccoon dinner. The dumb butts are sitting out in the cold wind matter what we do. For the past 4 nights the kids are gone in there and carried them to the perches in the shelter. They hop right off.

So I have pieces of plywood scraps leaning on the side of the pen as a makeshift wind block.. Jeezzzzz they are dumb !

At least my older pair of BRs are smarter and stay in the barn and sleep with the layers.

Despite a nice protected place with a strong perch, my turkeys always perch in the trees, once they are old enough to release. They'll have snow on their backs, or ice, and seem perfectly oblivious. When we butchered an older one some time back we realized how thick the layer of fat under that skin was, and quit worrying about them. However, when really bad weather is happening, the girls often join the chickens in a coop. The boys never do. Gotta be tough!

Does no one have light Brahmas? I only need 2........help! In other news I got re hired at usps and I'm more than excited. I've only had great news the past week or so, so I'm waiting on the bad news bear to hit me soon. Alot of people fail to see me as an adult but if you ask me, this wasn't in my ten year agenda...... I just wanted to pat myself on the back.......most days I surprise myself

Thanks Meg... Guess I will let them sleep on the ground and not worry, these are heading to the table/freezer next year so I didn't want to lose any. They do have a tarp over the pen so at least they stay dry. Dumb birds....

Shoot. I coulda added a couple chicks to my order for you, if you wanted babies instead of grown birds.

Congrats on the job! Jobs are a good thing to have in this economy! Go ahead and pat yourself on the back. Why not? It's a win!

I should be done with coop/run in about 1.5 weeks and I also have been looking for a couple of hens in the area. All the calls I make end up being some barn yard flea bags that have stopped laying.
