Thats annoying but YAY for more chicks!!!!

I learned a pretty good lesson today.....when you know someone who works for the town and he tells you they are picking up leaves.....you get a bright idea to ask for a load and use the leaves as chicken pen bedding.......you ask for 2 loads.

Somehow when he said SMALL load you had it in your mind it was actually going to be a SMALL load......that is a 75lb german shepherd for scale....

Now to worry about WHERE to put the other load. LOL
LOL...well, you could put the other load in that small spot where Pepper is laying...

This is why I am not allowed to describe things...DH tells me that my "small" and normal people's "small" are in two completely different worlds. So, yeah...that would be my small too!! LOL

Had a great day yesterday, thank you all for your birthday wishes!! The only drawback...no cake - I didn't feel like baking & decorating myself one!!

I did absolutely nothing in the baking/chore world (aside from tend to the animals and kids) and enjoyed my day of slothful playing!! Today we are "playing chef" and baking some cookies to put in the freezer for Christmas gifts for the neighbors!!

Have a great day everyone!!

to Hollowoakfarm and others who order online.
I had some chicks shipped (first time) to me from MYPETCHICKEN and they came to ok and all. (Nov 5th)
My question is.. I know the shipping is high and worth it, but....
That does raise the price of chickens skyhigh.
My flock was getting older and the new babies are turning out to be more boys than girls, which is why I ordered online.
Does the extra money make it worth it knowing you most likely have girls????
Are you ordering birds you can not get locally???
or is it knowing you will have new chicks now and not have to wait til spring/summer???

Out of my hatched chicks it looks like a 75/25, boys over girls.
Still not really sure on the last nine but from what I have learned here, I figure half maybe more.

I love this guy...

And a good morning to you all on this overcast day.....
My biddies want to play outside, til they get outside.....
then it's back to the back door wanting in....
Just my 2 cents worth... I order mine for both reasons, they are sexed and/or they are breeds I just haven't found locally, have 1 roo and that is plenty for me. So for us the price is worth it. I read a lot about people talking about how they are not up to snuff with the show quality birds and I don't doubt the truth in that. But for pets/layer/meat birds they are great! We just recently placed an order for 8 chicks and 4 ducks from Meyer hatchery to arrive next April/May. I would love a sexed silkie from MPC but Meyer has sexed ducks so we went with them. My first order from them was only 4 chicks, all arrived safe and sound. I did lose one of them but it was one that was weaker from the beginning. The other 3 are doing great.

Hey Ramzroost,
from newbie to another, Welcome....

The Howards, thanks for your 2 cents. Yes, I will have lots of freezer boys for this summer cooking, that is for sure. I only need 2 roos since my old guy is way past his prime plus the flock has grown a bit...

I see you have done an order for spring. I did my first order so they would be productive by summer, but I am feeling springtime is a much easier time to get them. Less work, worry and the temps are alot nicer.. My first group born July/Aug are already outside full time. My second group is 5 weeks, going out during the day but I am getting them use to no heat at night in the shop. Hope to have them outside by early Dec. The last group are 2 weeks and still in the house for a couple of more days til they go to the grow out coop in my shop... The first2 sets were the first ones we ever took from the moms, besides our first store bought 6 back in 2006. Lindy wanted to simi hand raise them, since the original 6 were so people friendly. I know we are being over protective but. laughs
