I've been a member for a few months, just now sort of becoming active. I love the advice and friendly folks, so thank you!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? No, I've had chickens for several years. At one time I had a small café that my 16 australorps helped to provide eggs for.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 16 hens, 1 rooster, and 1 Pekin duck. Sometimes there's a khaki Campbell, but where she lives full time I have no idea.

(3) What breeds do you have? Australorps

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? A high school friend who also has chickens told me about the forum on facebook

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I have a small farm, so if projects = hobbies too many to list. I like camping and kayaking quite a bit.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I'm self employed and contract with a utility, among some other things. I also enjoy raising a few hogs at a time, cattle. I have 2 dogs, one of which is a border collie that likes to help me herd the chickens at feeding time. Numerous barn cats.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Sounds like you keep the best breed there is, Australorps! My all time favorite!! :love

So glad you decided to join! :)
I’ve loved having australorps. My hens are well over 4 years old & starting to slow down. I bought some australorp chicks to start replacing the seniors, they turned out to be silver laced wyandottes!

I've got an Aussie hen that is about to turn 7 years old! She laid eggs up to last year. Enjoy your girls! :)
