Hello everyone,
I recall 30 years ago on my Uncle's farm watching the chickens and was hooked! I even had a Grandmother that collected chicken items and had well over 400. I always wanted to have chickens but figured living in the City it was not practical.
Well, last Sept my son came home and told me about his friend's chickens. They live 1 1/2blocks away. Needless to say that sent me on my journey to have chickens myself. Lots of reading, youtube videos, searching plans etc. Ordered chickens from Murrary McMurrary, the catch was the shipping quanity was 15, well they infromed me I could pick up 10. "Oh by the way," she said, "for ordering today we can include a free rare exotic chick." Having just ordered 4 more chicks than I orginally wanted I said "Sure!" I have a friend that is willing to take on the extra chick/chickens.
So, Saturday March 16th my 14yr old son will drive us the 50mins to Murrary McMurrary Hatchery to pick up our new family members. We are building our brooder this weekend, in prep for there arrivial. Hoping the weather breaks and coop building will start and be finished in time for the chicks move.
I have lurked this site and others since last fall and wish to thank everyone in advance for there wonderful knowledge I have found on here! Being a newbie backyard chicken owner I'm sure I will have questions as the new members of our family grow.
Thanks again!!
Jack
