It sounds like UGLYFOOT needs it to be later in the afternoon on the 19th. I say we can bring anyone we want as long as they don't mind us talking chickens

There's the Pizza Factory in Cd'A on 95 and Appleway. They have a banquet room we can reserve. My daughter works there so we might get a deal on pizza. I just need to know what time to reserve the room if we decide to meet there.

Love it! I agree with @Saris , 2pm sounds great. Who can disagree with our own room, and pizza!

yes, i like that feature also... just be careful you dont leave the egg on top too long, it can get hot in that one spot. I asked my DH to put a couple of round knobs on each side so i can pick the box up easily. i love it

Ugh we're going to have issues with the neighbor dog... Got all my chickens up to our house, they were out in the temporary run, and there came neighbor dog running around the run and coop trying to get in. Argh. I hate dogs, why can't they all be as nice and uninterested as mine and my in-laws..

Oh, how awful.. and scary. what is the dog ordinance in your area? you could catch the dog and take him to the pound or have the pound come get him? just one option? So sorry you are dealing w/this.

Well 2pm is not going to work out for me. I am working 12hr graveyard shifts and drive an hour each way. I can miss this one though and just plan to be at the next one. I understand that for most 2 is a good time to meet, especially those traveling here.

What are you guys using for incubators?  Do any of you use a commercial one?  I have heard that ones that they sell at stores aren't very good and end up costing a lot with additional pieces.  Thoughts?

I have 2 styrofoam bators. My DH bought them for me, when him and I didnt have a clue which bator to buy, and we didn't research. But they work well, I use both of them. I have figured out the dynamics. one is circ air and the other is still air. If i use the still air for incubating I put a folded up towel under the back end to elevate the eggs, about a 10-15 degree slant. the circ air incubator has an egg turner, so i dont need to elevate/slant the bator.
The circ air bator is a Little Giant (LG) 11300. The still air is made by Farm Inovators (FI) 2100 **one thing I do not like about the still air, the heating element is a tube that hang from the inside of the lid. and when the chicks or ducklings, etc hatch and when they start sitting up and stretching and walking around, they hit thier head or beak on the HOT heating element. I accidently touched it when I was reaching in and I still have a burn scar.... poor little babies. I have seen one duck and chick touch it and jump back, but I never saw a burn mark on them, curiously?? and I cant raise the lid or lower the floor.

One thing I would like to say about the circ air bator... it has a wire that comes from the lid and hangs inside the bator: at the end of the wire is an "L" probe that regulates the temperature (i thought it was the hygrometer gage). I find that if I place the probe Directly under the fan (in the middle of the bator) the temp is very stable. Since doing this i have not had anymore temp spikes...

I am so sad... I had to pull the plug on my 13 SWH today... it was day 12 of incubating and nothing was developing, except for one blood ring.
Thank God, the lady I bought them from is shipping me another batch... So very kind of her... Thank You!

My in-laws are friends with the pastor that was shot today in Cd'A. Please pray for him and his family. His name is Tim Remington. He is in surgery now.

Pastor Remington is on our prayer chain and I am still in contact w/my church in Shelley, ID. I put a prayer request on their site also. Prayers all around for the Remington family, church family and even for the shooter, he deserves prayers too, and of course the doctors. He still needs more surgery.
