NORTHERN California!

Have you looked into Butte County? That's where I live. Any questions I can help with let me know. I haven't had any issues with the county. I live in the county outside of the town of Paradise. I own businesses in Paradise but wouldn't want to live in the town limits.

Thanks- I actually was looking into paradise area.. whats the weather like in butte county? weather is another major consideration before buying land because we plan to be outside a lot , grilling, hanging out gardening etc so i would like to stay away from extremes- desert or snow. I keep hearing how elevation is so important and i get that , i went to my brothers wedding in lake arrowhead and had my first experience with traveling out of the snow and into the desert within 30 minutes aka down a mountain lol-
what is your zoning where you live - im assuming you have BY chickens?
my and hubby think its funny how we have moved around in FL not really caring what the zoning/ordinances were we just used best judgement but there is something so much scarier about doing that when your buying land and moving cross country. Im thinking about buying the land sight unseen to save the money it would take to fly down and rent a car and go check it out... Me and DH know this is a bad idea.. imagine a lovely mountain scenery acre green and lush in the picture and you show up to a muddy , undriveable , acre with a bunch of junk garbage or other scrap items laying about waiting for you to now pay for them to be hauled away.

also has anyone ever heard of the state having a land auction- maybe annually to get rid of cheap acres of raw or "off the grid" land?

how about california pines subdivision- lots of cheap acres up there but there are HOA fees which

scare me off at first glance.very confusing since we are talking about undeveloped land ( how could they tell you not to paint your door red or park on the street if theres not even a house in sight for miles?maybe they hope to turn it into a gated community ??) as far as i know HOA= rules and lots of them.. maybe im wrong?

We have ideal weather. Paradise can get snow but it usually just makes everyone run to the grocery store and hunker down in thier homes, watch the snow cover the ground, if we're lucky and then it melts off. If you want more snow for recreation, you can take the main road in town up through Paradise Pines (and, no you don't want to live up there) and be in lots of snow and also fantastic mountains in about a 1/2 hour. You can be to the coast in about 3 1/2 hours. You can be in the Tahoe area in a couple of hours too so we're pretty well located for whatever interest you have.

Our farm overlooks the west branch of Lake Oroville which provides lots of recreation if you like fishing, swimming, etc .

We have 3 horses, twenty something chickens, 2 dogs and a cat! We're 1 mile from the towns limits. I sell my eggs. ..

Id look in lower Paradise. If you search area code 95969 and see anything ask me and I'll tell you about that area.

I wrote in some forum somewhere and found someone who lived in the next town, but darned if I can find it!

I am in Lafayette, CA which is Contra Costa County - that close enough, Mary?

Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to BYC but not to animals. I was born in San Francisco but moved to a small town called Kenwood (between Sonoma and Santa Rosa) before I was 10. I moved to San Diego when I was 20 and from there I went to South Florida, where I have my business. Because of a serious illness I have had to spend most of my time back here in Nor Cal, and currently I live in Placerville CA. I used to raise exotics, things like servals, caracals, several types of civits, some other animals, I have collected live animals and used to quarantine them for zoos and places that display wild animals like parks and game preserves.

Because of the laws for keeping exotics are so strict in CA I have a limited number of animals here but I started raising things like mouflon, wild types of goats and especially birds, all of which are legal here. Would love to hear from other bird keepers who live in the area. I raise mostly pheasants and jungle fowl and I am working on buying a pair of demoiselle cranes, from my understanding they will be ready to come here sometime at the end of summer. I have a small flock of chickens for eggs and I just moved my vulturine and Reichenow's guinea fowl back to FL because neither of these guys is happy here in the winter but I do have my grey jungle fowl here and I'll be bringing some Cylon jungle fowl here in June.

I am leaving on a trip home on the 10th of April and returning sometime at the end of May or beginning of June, but I am always happy to find others with the same interests in the area. Would love to know what everyone else is keeping, even if it is just chickens. I am hoping to get some long tailed breeds like Phoenix or Yokohamas, once I return, looking for duckwings if anyone in the area raises them.

That's about it.

Philter , have you ever driven any animals in from FL to CA? We are planning a move , due to illness and the need for a 215 state- with 9 chickens , 2 ducks ,possibly our peahen , a pot belly pig and 9 dogs... We plan to drive down in our explorer towing a 30 ft travel trailer. We are concerned with interstate checkpoints and the CA AG border inspections. I Still have to call the CA state vet and find exact requirements but do you have any experience with driving into CA with animals? any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!
