Hi! My family and I live in NN and we just got our very first chicks!!! We've been exposed to chickens through friends and family and were very excited when we moved into our house a year ago because there is a coop on the property! My girls are 13 and 15 and absolutely love our new additions.

We have a TON to learn though and I am hoping to connect with other chicken moms and dads in my area.

So the chicks we chose: Bard Rock, Rhode Island Red, White Leghorn & Gold Sex Link. They are currently in a rubbermaid tub with the required red heat lamp, shavings, food and water. The tub is set in a very large cardboard box and when they get a tad bigger, we'll take them out of the tub and have them just in the box.

I know that BYC is a valuable resource and I intend on asking LOTS of questions! :D

So that's a quickie intro of me!

THANK YOU! It's a bit overwhelming, all the required and suggested reading... hope I can digest it all! Thank you for the link and I will add it to my to-do list! :D

Yes, there IS a lot of reading in the learning center. But you now know where it is if you need the info.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your chicks, sounds like you will have a pretty little flock that should lay a lot of eggs! X2 on TwoCrows suggestion of the Learning Center as a great place to start. You might also want to post in / checkout your state thread for people in your area https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/253930/nevadans

OMG! You live in Death Valley! That's my most favorite place on earth!!! Well, it was when I was a child anyway... from what I've heard it's nothing like it was back then. In any case, I've always said that when I die, I want to be cremated and my ashes flown over the valley. LOL!

Thank you so much for your welcome! :D

Hi! We live in the Spring Creek area. Glad to see you here! My girls are about the same age - 15 and 12. We have 32 egg layers and 20 Bantams. They are all this years' chicks. Glad to make a connection with someone in our area!
