I have two pullets, Solveig and Pia:)

Here is one of them when she was a chick:

Sorry for the poop that made it into the photo; I just think this is a good one for sexing them.

Both of my pullets are as sweet as can be. They aren't lap chickens or anything, but the y are very, very chill. I hope they'll be great layers; they are supposed to be.

Just for fun, I'll say that I think the chick in the middle (in the photo with the birds under their broody mama) is a cockerel. The other two look like pullets. I say this b/c the middle chick has white under his "chin," where the other two just have the white splotch on top of their heads.

I bought a dozen eggs from a lady here in Alaska. She was selling them for $2 an egg and since my family is norwegian I thought it might be fun to have some norwegian chickens

They are super adorable!

It seems to be hard to find info about them too! it seems like every site is the same info just copied over and over. It's also hard to find concrete info on how to sex them. Some people say the ones with the dark heads with a white spot are definitely the boys and other say that they are the girls

Guess I'll just let the little fuzzies grow up and see who's who. Sure hope I don't have 9 Roos though...

I believe there are only 2 hatcheries that breed them, Sandhill Preservation and Ideal, but they are sold out for 2011. There are a few folks on here that sell hatching eggs (me included.)

Seems each variety is a little different to sex.
The chicks are sexable as day-olds.
Light Jærhøns: Males are uniformly yellow, females are yellow with a visible brown stripe from their head and down along the back.
Dark Jærhøns: Males are brown with a large uneven yellow spot in the head/neck area. Females are brown with a small spot.
(Grey Jærhøns: Both genders are dark brown/grey at hatch. Males have a large uneven spot, females a smaller spot.)
(Flame Jærhøns: (as they aren’t bred in Norway I have no idea, but can edit if anyone has info on them))
