Norwegian Jaerhon

I'm not sure where in washington he's from. I got his phone number 2nd hand from one of his friends I found. If this help my credibility at all I'm really good at quoting people and relaying what people say verbatim from my experience as an law enforcement officer and being able to quote people was an essential part of law enforcement.. I'm afraid if I were to publish any of his contact information he would be overwhelmed with phone calls. when I contacted him it was obvious he was surprised and does not normally receive calls about jaers. I promise I'm telling you everything I've learned from talking to him.

Another fact of light jaers is that some times when breeding them they will produce a dark variant. But I'm not sure if the opposite is true. Leads me to believe that even if crossing has been done it would be fixable by selective breeding.

I did ask him what he thought about sand hill"s jaers and he spoke highly of them. He said the flame variation is just a color variation that poped up in their flock and that is something Sandhill came up with and he said that they as well are good layers and uniform in color. He said he purchased some from ideal hatchery and sandhill to restock after his coyote problem. I got mine from Alpine farms, she got them from ideal. I'm going to be selling hatching eggs abroad and chicks for local pick up this coming spring. I have two pens set up for them I've got a total of 10 hens and 3 roosters all dark variety. I had a couple lighter looking ones I'm culling but they looked like just a variation of dark variety...

Thanks, thats good to know. I'd like to email with him on some questions. If he is in the eastern part thats driveable. There is a university near Spokane.

I didnt know that Sandhill or Ideal had them. I was planning on some Turkeys this year from Sandhill.
I seriously would like to hatch or raise out a dozen to see what they do and how they compare with the Icelandics, I can literally have them side by side.

I am planning at least one other Scandinavian breed this year, possibly two others.

I am sure that most of them would fit into this climate area where I am very well. That is one of their big appeals besides their colors and overal appearance.

Thanks for all of the information !

I would very much like to have a big enough flock of these to show as much of the variation that is in the breed now, I think that there is a lot more that we arnt seeing. Only with numbers will we see all that they are.

This is Chip. He's a dark variety young rooster. He currently resides with three of his Jaer girlfriends. I keep this small flock with my Mother... Since Chip was the most friendly guy in the whole bunch I wanted him to go somewhere he could get more attention. He likes being held, and my mother said that she has been feeding them pieces of turnip greens from the garden as treats and he does a "happy dance" ha I'm going to have to see this! But I'm not surprised. He's a very friendly rooster. He is BY FAR the most friendly one I've ever had. And weird thing is he became friendly on his own he wasn't tamed into being this way...

Chip is a very handsome guy, great c olor, I like his conformation too,

I have been doing a lot of reading on the older Scandinavian breeds and I am thinking that they share a lot of common ancestry, my Icelandics are quite friendly, they come right up for treats, I am going to try and hatch out as many as I can under broodys this spring, and may even slip in a couple incubator hatched ones to broodys to raise, they are so much more advanced then brooder raised chicks.

This has been very interesting and informative. Thanks again for taking the time to dig this up. Very exciting to talk with someone with so much knowledge of the breed.
