As soon as MTV came out I became a ROCKER

Ahh the good old days when MTV actually played only music videos!!

We lived out in the country so we did not have cable TV. In fact we had only 3 channels. My friend's would use the good old VCR and record the music videos for me.

A group of us were reminiscing about the good old days this weekend.

The guys were talking about the zip around jeans the Rocker Chicks use to wear. Remember those the zipper went all the way around front to back they would split in half?

Then my DH pulled out photos of me at "The Stone" (use to be a rock music club) up in SF wearing a pair of skin tight zip around jeans the knee high black seude boots that time I believe my hair was Icee Blue, my parent's called me "My Little Pony" because my hair was always a different color. Black suede jacket with the fringe and all my guy friends had the LONG hair or mowhawks.

Mosh pits, balcony diving, club Death Metal Bands... ahhhh the good old days.

hmmmmmm.....the good ol' days to me were those happy years preteen when we visited my grandparents in Rocky Mount. Waking up and smelling the bacon and coffee downstairs. Hearing just the faintest whine of hwy95 and birds waking up. Not a care in the world. Fishing and exploring. Eating a pound of candy(that only cost a quarter back in those days). I spent most of my childhood outdoors and often in the woods. Music... The Monkeys... lol! and later -James Taylor, Bad Company, Foghat, Stones, Led Zepplin. Anyone remember playing those grocery store-horse racing tv cards? My grandmother won $5 once. My horses never won and of course Dialing for Dollars never called me either !

I think my favorite toy when I ws young was a "Close N' Play" record player. I found a neat website for retro toys you might find interesting.

Oh and waking up on sunday to homemade biscuits & gravy, bacon,eggs the whole table would be just full of good home cooking. Then our friends would come over to visit and help us eat it all. Then the next week we would go to their house for breakfast. I miss that now that I've grown up and moved away.

We called them parachute pants!! I had many pairs.

The first video I ever saw was "I want my MTV" -
so classic.......

Hey y'all, I love BBC, Keeping up with Appearances is sooo funny, I love Hyacinth and Richard, every time I say something to DH he will say Yes Dear. Well back to old tv shows, remember Get Smart, Mission Impossible, Here Comes The Brides, boy I'm old as dirt, That Girl and Petticoat Junction.

Anybody remember, The Kids from C.A.P.E.R.? Or ARK II or ISIS? Loved those shows!!!
I guess my favorite memory was going with my dad to "Moncreefs" he was a local man with a small store that had bologna/crackers, like on the Walton's. Dad would let us ride in the back of Old Blue, the pickup truck, on the tailgate, we would drag our feet on the newly laid black top and see how much we could melt off the toe of our shoes. (Mom didn't like it too much) Once at Moncreefs he would buy us a coke and peanuts and we would pour the peanuts into the coke. Thus creating an ambrosia!! Mr. Moncreef would always give us a piece of banana taffy candy. We thought that was the bomb!!!
Even before that I remember "The Peddler". He was a circuit riding salesman that drove a UPS type truck. He would come on a certain day and park at the end of our road where he waited for customers. He sold things like, candy, milk, bread etc. It was for people who didn't get to town much. We use to love to go meet "the peddler".

I was the only child at home. I would spend hours and hours in my room playing records. (I don't think my children have ever actually heard a record on a record player played!) I played 45's. and occasionally a 33. My favorite 45 was "how much is that doggie in the window?" and my fave 33...the sound track for South Pacific. I STILL know all the words.

I was looking on Youtube and found Wonderama. It was a Sunday morning variety show for kids with Bob McAllister in the early 70s. I think it was local to the NY area but its spinoff, kis are poeple too was syndicated nationally. We, anyway, they had these cans with these springy snakes that flew out, how corny.The kids would pick a can and if a snake flew out they couldn't get a prize unless they answered a question. There was one can with fake flowers in it, that kid would win a super prize. They picked kids out of the audience and they did all of these crazy contests. The prizes were great. Oh how I wanted to be a Wonderama kid!

I remember our dad buying a us a record player and listening to Cher and Olivia Newton John 45 records, over and over and over.

Summers all day swimming in the LI Sound.

The advent of MTV and the 80s were great, love those sitcoms like The Facts of Life, Hello Larry, and loved the Muppet Show on Saturday nights. I know, I'm a dork. My daughter reminds me daily!

Okay, how bout Sun-E-Fox, Shanagins, Davy and Goliath, Dark Shadows, Archie comics, Deputy Dawg,
the smell of a summer night, less cars, less people, Mom stayed at home, we visited the grand parents on the weekends, just plain ole TV and drive ins, walking a mile in snow to get to school, eating breakfast lunch and dinner made from scratch, wax lips,
Oh man, don't get me started!!!! Oh!
