Nostril swelling

I noticed this swelling on one nostril once many months ago but it sort of solidified and didn't seem to bother him, so I left it alone.
But now his other nostril is also swollen, but the tissue is soft. Does anyone know what this is?

I know it has to be some infection, but what specifically?

I tried to take pictures as best I could.

Edit: He also keeps closing his right eye and so I used moist toilet paper, since its softer, to remove something weird that was stuck on his eyelid but the 🔬 picture is all I got because it's too dense.

Hard to tell if it's mucous or feed stuck in the nostrils. Has he had any symptoms like coughing, sneezing, etc.?

Anyway, the nostrils need to be cleaned out. Apply 1 (one) drop of Peroxide to the crusty material in the nostril. Let the soak in a few minutes. Take a dental pick or orange stick (cuticle stick) or similar and start working on getting the gunk out of the nostril.

Work on one nostril at a time. It may take several sessions to finally work all of it free.

For debris and crustiness on or in the eyes, use saline to flush the eye, then take a soft cloth to wipe out the eye. If he has mucous or irritation of the eye, then apply a dot of Terramycin eye ointment in the eye.

Thank you! One thing though, it seems that his nostril is not only swollen, but like it's open in the middle of the swelling. I'm not sure if it just appears this way and is actually just covered though.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean that it's open in the middle of the swelling. Can you get a photo of that?

Oh gosh the one thing that never stops moving is his head 😂

Anyway these aren't clear at all, but I tried to draw a line on the first image to show what I mean.

The top/left line is the weird open area and the other line is where I assume I'm usually meant to see the actual opening of his nostril

The last is a picture from forever ago for comparison, but it's just confusing me about whether his nostrils are completely covered or what

Oh, I see.
Yes, that may be part of the nostril, hard to tell, but he's got "stuff" clogged around it. I'd work on loosening what looks like doesn't belong.

Yep, they move constantly, you're going to have fun😅

Any lesions inside the beak?

Do you have a helper?

20minutes is a long time to work on any bird, especially flighty squirmy Quail. I wouldn't work on him for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. Have all your supplies laid and ready.

20 minutes, pieces of an apple slice, he's absolutely freaked out now, and still no clue what I'm looking at

None that I can tell.

No, I do not have a helper.

He's pretty comfortable with me, but noted that it was quite lengthy.
