Howdy Folks,
My name is Darrell Seymour I am fifty six years young married to the best wife and have four great grown children, seven dogs and two cats! Due to the economics crunch I was laid off on April 1, 2009, no trust me it was no April Fools tho I wish it had been. I decided to go back to school! So i spent the next two years at Piedmont Tech and on March 12, 2011 I got an associates degree in Residential Building Construction,

but jobs here are still slow at hiring.

I have raised chickens several times before over the years then I get caught up in other things and get away from it for a while and end up getting back into it,(I just love the critters that much)! I had some lumber that I got from tearing down an old house and had built two coops after about nineteen years they started to rot so I got rid of them the last time I had chickens! I am going to try to get ready for a new flock next spring so I will build a few new coops and a chicken tractor or two. I live on two and a half acres so I got the space and the land is ours we been here for over thirty years, I don't think we will be leaving no time soon!

I am planning to raise chickens that are on the watch list to the critical list! I want to start out with Dominique, Jersey Giant( Both on the Watch List ), Campine, Chantecler ( Both on the Critical List), and Salmon Faverolle (on the Rare List). I will sell chicks and eggs to off set the cost of the feed and hope and pray this will work!

I am going to start building some chicken coops and chicken tractors to see if there is a market for them. Hopefully this will take off and I can make a business of it! I enjoy building Cornhole Boards and playing Cornhole ( a resin filled bag that you throw to ring a six inch hole in a 2'X 4' board, lot like horseshoes ). I also like reading anything about chickens ( Like they say you never get too old to learn)! I am a subscriber to " Backyard Poultry Magazine " and own lots of magazines and books, including " Raising Chickens for Dummies" and " Building Chicken Coops For Dummies "! This is how I found out about your Great Web site!!!!

Sounds like you have some excellent plans for everything. Hope it all works out for you!

Hello and welcome to BYC

I'm sure you will sell coops and runs. People say the pre-made ones are a bit expensive, so if you can build nice ones out of recycles materials for a good price you should have a good business up and running soon. And you can advertise here in the Buy~Sell~Trade section once you've been here awhile. I believe you need 20 posts before you're allowed, so get busy. LOL Good luck to you!

Thank you so much, for the confidence building ! I hope you are right I know

I have seen some coops around here and they want from $900 to $3500 for
them!

I pray I can make that kind of money!

Some of them are horrendously expensive. And tiny! If you can produce a good size, predator proof coop for a decent price you'll be busy, I'm sure. Good luck!
