Not a welsummer?

Do you have any more recent pictures of the pullet? Doesn't look like my Welsummer. I am seeing a very definite subtle barring to the feathers.

Brings to mind many of the autosexing crosses like Welbar, Cambar, Legbar etc. The Legbars do lay blue tinted eggs but have a crest. Makes me wonder if this is an unintended cross with a Welsummer and a barred breed. I think Marans have white legs. Could the breeder have Cuckoo Marans and a wayward rooster? Just a thought.

The posted pics are about a week old. I can take some more in the next couple of days and try to get a clear shot of the feather patterns. We have three of these birds in total that are all nearly identical, though one shows just a tad more reddish coloring than the other two around the head and breast. I honestly can't tell the other two apart visually they are so much alike.

Dretd, where did you get your Welsummer? How old was it when you got it? How old is it now? Do you have pics you can post of your Welsummer? (Edited to say: I'm just wondering if there is a possibility that you got something other than a Welsummer and that is where the confusion may come from?)

As I said before, I raise, breed, and show Welsummers. I've had them for years and this bird is typical of a pullet her age.

God Bless,
