I hope if she has to lay today it won't be like yesterday. Keep up with the calcium and keep an eye on her like you are.

all I know about the cal glu is that it does cause contractions that is what @Amiga vet gave to her duck when she was egg-bound. And this is the reason many of us started using it when one of ours had a problem laying. I do know @Aunt Angus had to give her duck multiple doses before she laid so it doesn't sound like it would cause one to lay an egg prematurely.

Is it possible for the calcium to cause contractions even if there's no egg to lay?
This may be a really silly question. But I'm trying to figure out why she was struggling and then since been normal.

I should be safe to give her more, right? There's no risk of her laying an egg "prematurely"-- it would have to be in the part of her system ready to push out?

I probably sound really dumb. I'm just so worried I'm not sure I'm thinking clearly anymore

I checked dashers egg last night and it was still to thin I was able to break the egg with zero force just light pushing
So I gave her another dose before bed
I didn’t see her contacting
It may happen but I think if the body is low on calcium it would absorb if
I myself will never do the injections again
It cost me hundreds of dollars and gave me a whole new issue I didn’t have before the injections and the new issue is life threatening for her
Her shells were never soft and brittle before the shots. Now I have to fear they break inside of her and she could die
They were breaking as she laid them
The calcium is working to bring those shells back but going off it for one day we had another brittle shell
The shot may not itself cause the shell to be brittle but the hormone is telling her she isn’t laying so she isn’t eating the oyster shells seeking the calcium
Directly or indirectly it’s affected her eggs (
Wish the avian vet had told me this would be a possibility
I wouldn’t have done it

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. She could just have problems absorbing calcium.
I have a zebra finch who was born with that exact issue! She needs almost twice the calcium, because she doesn't absorb it at the same rate as others.

I solved the issue by handfeeding her some chick formula with liquid calcium for a while, and making an herb and calcium mix that she liked more than the normal calcium sources they had available, so she ate more of it.
After a few months, she just learned that she needs more calcium than the others and I haven't had issues since.

I really hope that's the case, because it's really not that hard to solve. I'm wishing the best of luck to your little girl, you've got this!

I did give her a good dose of calcium, so perhaps it caused "mock" contractions very briefly. I don't know
Just a thought I had.
She's standing normally, tail up. She's been eating too which is great

Just got her back outside finally
She wouldn't eat the calcium over a treat
I had to syringe it. So I mixed 2 tsp with water, enough to make it into liquid. Then syringed as much as I could into her- I think she swallowed most of it. It was a little tricky as she really fought it. I did 3 syringes and there was a little left over so I'd guess she got 1tsp at least swallowed down.

Cam you get calcium in a tablet form? It's super easy to administer and much harder for them to evade.

Yeah, I really don't think I'd go for the injections, I could afford it and I'm not convinced at all it'd help her
I rarely see her pecking at the grit so I'm thinking I'm right on my theory- she didn't like those oyster shells, the pieces were too large
Now I've switched them I just have to hope shes eating them.... Dougie isn't too picky with either kind. I've seen her picking through both kinds

I found these calcium citrate tablets with Vit D
I think 1 tablet is 350mg?
I could try them if y'all think it's worth a shot, not sure about the dosage though.

Not even! You literally put it in the back of her throat and she'll swallow it. It's so much easier than liquid.
