What do you mean by "peeking"? Do you mean shadowing (pushing the membrane)? Is this a duck egg- what day is it on?There's still a lot of fluid in there, but the little peep keeps peeking into his air cell. View attachment 3036753
Yes, sorry, I was tired when I typed that. It's a call/Australian spotted duck egg on day 25. I have a thread down here somewhere, my last eggs all hatched early. What do you mean by "peeking"? Do you mean shadowing (pushing the membrane)? Is this a duck egg- what day is it on?
oh I see! Thank's for confirming lol.Yes, sorry, I was tired when I typed that. It's a call/Australian spotted duck egg on day 25. I have a thread down here somewhere, my last eggs all hatched early.
Almost exactly a month ago, I did a staggered hatch (my first hatch!) and now there are 8 healthy noisy babiesoh I see! Thank's for confirming lol.
If it's day 25, then is it in lockdown? Is it just the amount of fluid left that concerns you?
How many other eggs are there- how do those look? And what's the humidity?
It's hard to see exactly how full up the egg is from that photo, but it doesn't look too far off. If you want to wait a little longer, you could wait until the air cell draws down (which it looks to already be starting to do, so shouldn't be long) before you raise humidity for lockdown. Either way, you don't need to turn the egg anymore!
2 weeks is quite an age gap, even though he's sweet he may still not accept her, so be sure to have that separate brooder ready, perhaps with a cuddly toy/mirror for company?Almost exactly a month ago, I did a staggered hatch (my first hatch!) and now there are 8 healthy noisy babies. I decided to incubate 3 more, since some of my neighbors expressed interest, but I think my little female was all laid out at the time, and 2 out of 3 ended up being infertile. Then we had a random cold snap and she quit laying all together, it warmed up, and she started her spring molt. So there's only the one little egg in there, but I've got a separate brooder ready for him, and the youngest baby (2 weeks) is the tiniest and sweetest, I'm sure she will cuddle with him. Humidity is at 47% right now. Sorry about the image quality, the flashlight decided it was ready to die out.

Since it's this one egg, I would keep a close eye and as soon as the air cell drops, or baby begins shadowing (once the egg is all dark and full) bump the humidity up for lockdown. For now, as I said, you dont need to turn the egg, but wait to bring the humidity up, so that the liquid can go down. I expect it'll be ready for lockdown either later today or early tomorrow, so keep a close eye.
Not too much liquid left so you could probably get away with raising the humidity and everything now if you wanted to.
I ended up with a staggered hatch, and one duck egg went into lockdown 4 days early, a fair amount of liquid left- Once the other had hatched, I let this egg have a short dry spell before bringing the humidity up again just as she internally pipped-and she was absolutely fine! Keep me updated!
I knew something looked kind of funny in there. Poor baby was a little bit shrink wrapped. Somewhere on here is a very long Thread about me assisting with hatching with my other little ones that hatched a month ago. I did a tiny bit of assisting, but as little as possible and made sure to keep little baby as much in the eggshell as possible so that it could absorb all of that goodness. It kicked the rest of the shell off today and I'm letting it still in the incubator are all nice and warm at about 65% humidity or so. Lots of chirping and sleeping, but nice healthy breathing. I will probably give it some warm sugar water or electrolyte later on, but so far so good.2 weeks is quite an age gap, even though he's sweet he may still not accept her, so be sure to have that separate brooder ready, perhaps with a cuddly toy/mirror for company?
