Not all hens laying

Hello. I’m new to BYC. I have nine hens; not all are laying. Any suggestions as to how to find out which ones are not? Two are 2 1/2 years old the rest are 1 1/2 years old. I’ve tried sitting out in chicken yard watching coop, but I think they are on to me.

Ive heard of blotting their vent with different colors of food coloring. Not sure if its safe to do. You may want to research that.

You can use food dye (or supposedly even different shades of lipsticks) on the vents to "mark" the eggs. Though I can confirm a watched hen WILL lay... they might give you the stink eye for a bit, but they'll eventually ignore you and lay anyhow.
