Not an emergency. How to keep chickens cool?

Thank you she passed last night. I just didn't know what else to do for her. We did the mist, fan, frozen treats, little water bath and we gave 2-3 sources of cool fresh water.

Oh no, I am sorry for your loss. It's hard loosing a loved hen

Sorry for your loss. There may have been some underlying disease, such as heart disease, that caused her death. A necropsy done by a state vet or poultry center may tell the cause of death if something similar happens. How old was she?

I'm sorry for your loss, we only had her 2 weeks, she was 4 months old. It's just upsetting to have something in your care and you feel like you didn't do the right thing. Thank you for the support..

I'm sorry. It's really hard when that happens. But you tried, and that's what matters. You asked questions to get help. I caught my hens egg binding after about 12 hours and I did everything I could to help her. I wish I would've caught it sooner. Just try to feel good knowing that you tried. You didn't just leave her to die.

Sorry for your loss!

My best advice on keeping chickens cool is this.
Chickens come in contact with many surfaces and objects which all have different temperatures. The best way to help chickens cool down is by making sure the things they touch are also cool. Their water should always be fresh and cold. Provide them with shade to keep the ground and such cooler. Hang frozen water jugs in the coop with a fan blowing on them to help cool air circulate and flow through the coop. Open any windows too. Eliminate crowded conditions so the bird doesn't have to worry about getting hot due to the contact of another. Hose down the coop and run if possible. One other idea is to put frozen jugs or water bottles in the nests to help keep laying hens cool.

You have described the experience of losing a hen perfectly. Having so many, (30) I sometimes don't notice until it's too late. And it doesn't matter whether you were close to the animal or not. You feel terrible. You did your best, and that's a lot more than most. Good luck with the rest of your hens.
