NOT an emergency - swollen feet

I would also (cautiously) be leaning towards gout as the problem...
First off what have you been feeding her? Have you been mixing oystershell in with the feed ? (If you have please stop...oyster shelll should never be mixed in with the feed but offered separately free choice)
Can you feel the "inflamed" areas...do they feel hard or somewhat fluidy?

tks all. to clarify some questions:

1) all 8 hens (5 banties too) live in spacious coop (12'x14'), 10" clean soft pine shavings w/ de sprinkled. enclosed run is 10'x13' filled w/ 2/3 sand 1/3 top soil, turned over every week to remain diggable.

2) they are fed layer pellets 24/7 and do have separate feeder w/ oyster shell, free choice. They also get "good" treats and now free range close to the coop.

3) there is an asphalt driveway to the back of the barn and coop. the only time they are on it is to walk across to get to the garden and the pastures. They NEVER spend more than the time it takes to walk across 6' of asphalt to the grass, where they spend their time.

4) i just checked the "scab" on back of her foot. it is poop. no scabs, open sores etc. i will double check when help arrives later today.

In case of gout, try feeding her black cherries (tho I read any cherries will do) daily for a few weeks and then periodically after that. Fresh or frozen will do. A least a few cherries per serving at first. Cherries are known to give amazing relief from gout.
