not an emergency- testing for diseases on new birds?

So, i brought home some silkies. they are far.. far away from my flock (in my horse trailer). They were from a npip tested flock but then purchased by a fellow.
They look very healthy(he was selling as he had too many birds and he kept the silkies separate).

So, i was doing some research and found WADDL will test for salmonella(pullorum/typhoid) which NPIP tests for and i can test for MG(but its not the PCR test which is alot) which i am so afraid of. It will be $20 per bird plus the $10 fee.
Anyone else have a lab they use? anything else i should test for? I bought the two pullets for broodies as my incubator skills are greatly lacking.
I was told 4 weeks is a good quarantine period unless of course they look sick...


or i can test my flock for $60 for the salmonella and the AI and be a NPIPP but adding MG would be $310! eeek thats for 15 birds so i would have to sell some.

I raise silkies who are more susceptible to diseases and vitamin deficiencies so am just very cautious about bringing new ones into the flock. So much so, that I quit doing that and just buy hatching eggs now, and sterilize them prior to putting in the incubator so no chance of anything on the eggs themselves.

If you're able and willing to quarantine for a month, although some diseases can linger inside for months/years, I think the odds are greatly in your favor they will be fine.

thank you, yes no rush for sure. they dont really need much exercise as the trailer is larger than the pen they had and i have a big old scary dog, so not worried about raccoons scaling up and down the slick metal horse trailer sides. If they did they wouldnt be able to come back out....

do you think if i just test one it will give a good indication? I have three. trying to remember how often the silkies go broody. supposedly one was before i picked her up but now both are laying well.
