Good morning everyone!
I have recently acquired several juvenile birds (4 months old ish) after a disease wiping out my flock. It’s very important to me to do things properly including biosecurity!
These birds are in a sterilized chicken tractor, seem to be healthy so far, but have only been on the farm for a week.
For my sanity and peace of mind I am testing all new birds that come into the farm for ILT, Mereks, and MG. (If you have suggestions for others, please let me know!)
The new birds will be in quarantine for at least 30 days. As they came from the same property and have grown up together since hatch (my thought process being that if they are going to get sick and test positive they’ll have already caught it) , can testing be done earlier than the 30 days so results are ready at the 30 day mark, or test at 30 days, holding them until the 45ish day mark?
I’m probably overthinking all of this, but my eyes have been opened to the possibility of such devastating diseases, so for my peace of mind here I am!
