If you have a good digital scale that can be calibrated you can do like azygous suggested. The ones with the needle aren't very accurate.

Any cheap kitchen scale will work.

I went to weigh one of my hens this morning and nearly panicked when it said she had dropped 8oz. Sneaky girl had her toenail resting on the stand. She had in fact gained 2 oz.
