My hen started acting funny a little over a week ago. I didnt think much at first cause were going from winter to spring. She has always been VERY hyper and a good layer. Now she is barely going, lethargic, stands around walks a little funny, her poop is very runny. yesterday it was almost water a while ago it was runny and had alot of yellow in it so, i didnt know if that meant yold in her poop or something else.. i lubricated her bottom with vasaline i havent done a warm water soak because i just know she will freak out. plus her comb is all laid over sad looking.i got her about 6 months ago and she hasnt been handled much if any. i dont even know how old she is. Barely eating but drinking pretty good right now she is prefering water than food and she LOVES to eat. Im not sure if she is egg bound i have never dealt with that before. my chickens are not penned they free range.any suggestions is greatly appreciated. here is a picture

well, im not real sure it doesnt seem to be a whole lot of swelling.....would it be swollen bad? when i put the vasaline on her vent she didnt care for it much and made her very wiggly.

If you feel in the right place, and compare to other birds, it's pretty obvious.

I'd isolate bird in a wire cage within the coop for a day or two....so you can closely monitor her intake of food and water, crop function(checking at night and in morning before providing more feed), and her poops. Feel her abdomen for squishy or hard
swelling.

Best to put crate right in coop or run so bird is still 'with' the flock.
I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.

she has been standing just like the picture i took this morning and posted she hasnt moved. i have her in a penned in area right now just so the rooster wont get at her, i carried her to the coop last night when i sat her down she went straight to the nest and thats where she slept. she doesnt try to go to the coop to the nest during the day so i dont know. she has been walking around i just carried her to make it easier for her. im afraid im going to lose her.

this maybe crazy but there are a few bugs in her feathers other than the tiny mites....could that have anything to do with her being sick?
The mites could have a lot to do with it...they can kill a bird by causing anemia.
How long have they had mites...have you treated for them?

Google images of lice/mites and their eggs so you'll know what you're looking for.

i had a hen to get sick several weeks ago. she started getting slow moving she hadnt laid and egg in months so i thought it might have something to do with that. i brought her in the house just to let her visit some she likes that after i had handled her some i put her out. i felt something crawling on me and i had several of whatever it was crawling on me. i freaked out of course i had to throw away what i had on cause there was so many bugs on it i dint want ot keep it yuck. anyhow i got her down and looked her over and there were tons of them on her. i was shocked i never noticed them!!! my chickens free range and dust whenever they want.i dusted her in wood ashes. for a few days. about 5 days after i found the bugs she died. i dont know if thats what is was or not. the bugs were like see through very light tan with like a dark middle. i checked my other chickens not everyone of them but the ones i can handle and they didnt have any of them.

she isnt loaded with them thats why i didnt think to much about it when i got her down and looked her over under feathers her legs there was a few but nothing that alarmed me like the other one.
