I have 28 hens all about the same age (1 year old). I only get anywhere between 20 to 24 eggs per day, I have never had all my chickens lay. What could be the problem and how can I get better egg production?

What breeds of hens do you have? Different breeds have different average production rates.
20-24 eggs a day from 28 hens is actually pretty normal - most of the common layer breeds average 4-6 eggs per week, so that means there are 1-3 days a week when each bird won't produce an egg - average that out over your flock of 28 and you can see where your current rate of production is pretty standard.

I have a wide range of breeds; 6 black stars, 6 red stars, 6 BOs, 1 hatchery breed and 9 EEs. They are all getting along fairly well, I started free ranging them about 2 weeks ago. I wanted to raise chickens so me and my family could have fresh yard eggs, then co-workers of my daughter in law found out we have them and that I was selling the extra eggs. One thing led to another and now I'm going to have to get more hens so that me and my family can have fresh yard eggs again, lol.

Sounds pretty normal to me too.
How many nests do you have? 1 nest for each 3-4 hens is recommended.

Also if you are free ranging, they may be laying out in the range area.

Free range birds sometimes need to be 'trained'(or re-trained) to lay in the coop nests, especially new layers. Leaving them locked in the coop for 2-3 days can help 'home' them to lay in the coop nests. They can be confined to coop 24/7 for a few days to a week, or confine them at least until mid to late afternoon. You help them create a new habit and they will usually stick with it.
