NOT happy!!! UPDATE: Turkeys arrived.

I was thinking the same thing Tracy.
Round these parts folks are selling off there critters right and left because they can't afford to feed them.
I can't imagine the hatcheries are that bombarded with orders during this economic time.

Wish I lived closer, I'd take your packing peanuts (roos) off your hands. We have 4 farms down our road here, and it would be pretty easy to adopt them out or add to existing flocks (we have semi wild/tame) turkeys out here that roam around.

I would give away the extra ''packing peanuts'' (roos) away on freecycle or craigslist so someone can grow them up for food, pets, or yard art if you don't want them

That's too bad. What a pain to get chickens you don't want. Maybe try offering them in the buy/sell/trade forum, too. I raised some to butcher, when I got some I didn't expect. They didn't end up huge, but were still delicious. They were also very healthy and easy to raise.

I've heard that hatcheries are still super busy this year. People may be getting rid of horses, but they are going nuts over chickens.

I would really like to know which hatchery you dealt with so I can avoid getting hosed down the road.

Actually it's not uncommon to get packing peanuts if they had to stagger your order. There needs to be enough chicks in the box to not only cushion each other, but to ensure that there is enough heat so they don't all die.

I think most (if not everyone here) knows the purpose of packing peanuts but when the customer specifically request NO packing peanuts then the hatchery should discuss alternatives with the customer rather then just ignoring the request for them to not ship roos.

The packing peanuts were more of an inconvenience than a problem. I think that the OP's real problem with the hatchery was that the employee said to just throw them away, and there were shipping delays, and they didn't send what was ordered.

Yeah, by all means let us know the name of the place..

When I order something I want to get what I paid for and not something they decide they don't need and give me in place of..

BUT.. some poulty houses on their sites does state that they ship only St. Runs.. meaning whatever has hatched is what you get..

THEN below that (if they sex them) they usually get more per bird for your choice..
