Well, time and patience usually does wonders. Though each will be unique in their personality just like us, animals also, lest we forget.
When I get a hen that is flighty and defensive at first, I just love them through it - it can take a year, but they always calm down and build trust....Treats and chatting with them helps! After hen Annie died in July (RIP) I brought home Ellie, flighty and pecky and all in all, wanting nothing to do with me at first. Now she follows me EVERYWHERE and while not a lap chicken (yet
) she's at ease and is basically turning into a dollface. I think she was low in the pecking order where she came from and was feeling the need for some self preservation when she first arrived but now as queen of the manor, she is one happy camper!
All the best.
