Four out of our 8 hens started laying a few weeks ago, but one seems a little confused. While she is walking around, she just squats and drops an egg out. The eggs are never fully formed and are soft, they have a little tail on them, almost like two eggs. We broken them open and they have two yoaks. A lot of the times we find that while on the purch at night she will drop them. Do you think she ever get it right and go into a nest box? Is she maybe lacking something? We though maybe calicum, but they other girls egg shells are real had and think. So we're not sure whats up.

If they are soft it sounds like she isn't getting enough calcium.
Sometimes they figure it out on were to lay and sometimes they don't.
I have some that still don't lay in the nest box. They just plop them out
when they are walking around. Crazy chickens!! LOL!!

Out of 12 laying right now, I have one that insists on laying in the corner if the nest she prefers is occupied. If it is empty she will lay in the nest.

Given time, she will figure out where to go to lay her eggs. As far as the soft shell is concerened, do you put out any oyster shell? She may require extra calcium. Get some ground oyster shell, if you don't have some already, and put out for them. If they need the extra calcium, they will eat it. It can be acquired at your local feed store.
